As has become customary before the launch of an expected smartphone series, details about the specs and the devices’ launch date are shared. This K40 family is no exception. This time, we got the latest hot updates shared by Lu Weibing.
Redmi K40 is already in use
On Weibo, the Redmi general manager shared a post that’s at least interesting. It was published via a Redmi K40 smartphone, which suggests that this phone is already being used.
Such “enticements” from manufacturers aren’t anything special. In many cases, when the actual presentation of these devices is already coming up, posts are shared on social media using them. The purpose is to catch attention and draw focus to the launch that’s already around the corner.
More models are coming
At the same time, on Weibo—this time thanks to Redmi’s product director—we also learn another interesting update. Wang Teng Thomas posted an update saying that the Redmi K40 series will include several devices powered by Snapdragon 888 5G.
So it’s very likely that as many as 3 devices will make it to the market. The base model Redmi K40 will apparently hide a MediaTek chipset under the hood—probably from the Dimensity 1000 series—while the K40 Pro and K40 Ultra models will come with the aforementioned Snapdragon 888 processor.
That means we’ll get a base model, which will also be the most affordable, along with two upgraded siblings. The Pro or Ultra variant, then, is a solid candidate to become the successor to the popular POCO F2 Pro.
We can look forward to flagship processors, a high-quality AMOLED panel with a higher refresh rate, and a punch-out for the selfie camera, plus an always-decent 4000 mAh battery. Pricing should start at 2999 yuan, €380 / $463, and more details could be revealed as early as February.
