Xiaomi will focus more thoroughly on the area that has been limiting smartphone performance for a long time—cooling. The new Redmi K90 Max brings a revolutionary active cooling system with a physical fan that can reduce the device temperature by up to 10 °C within 100 seconds.

It’s a solution we’ve known mostly from gaming laptops rather than smartphones, but Xiaomi managed to build it directly into the phone body without compromising durability.
Redmi K90 Max will deliver cooling like a gaming laptop
At the core of the news is a massive 18.1 mm diameter fan, capable of generating an airflow of 0.42 CFM. That’s roughly 30% more than competing solutions. Xiaomi uses specially angled blades and an optimized air inlet, ensuring more efficient intake and distribution of cool air inside the device.
But it’s not just the fan itself. The manufacturer also designed a unique airflow channel system with a vortex-like structure that minimizes turbulence and ensures smooth airflow directly through the most heat-heavy components. Metal guide elements further help dissipate heat better and improve the efficiency of the entire system.
What’s most interesting, though, is the durability. Integrating a fan would normally mean a significant reduction in protection against water and dust. Xiaomi came up with a solution in the form of a separate, hermetically sealed air channel that isolates the internal components from the surrounding environment.
Thanks to this, the Redmi K90 Max achieves IP66, IP68, and even IP69 certifications. The smartphone can handle not only being submerged in water without issues, but also high-pressure jets of hot water—something that’s truly unique in combination with a mechanical fan.
Performance without overheating and without compromises
The entire cooling system has one main goal—to keep maximum CPU performance without so-called thermal throttling. This is when the chip reduces performance in order to lower temperature. The MediaTek Dimensity 9500+ chip is expected to be used, one of the most powerful mobile processors available. With active cooling, the chip can run for long periods at maximum frequencies without a performance drop.
It’s also interesting that despite the fan being present, the noise level stays at just 32 dB, which is about the level of a quiet room. Xiaomi achieved this result by combining rotor balancing, a special blade design, and damping materials inside the construction.
The smartphone runs on HyperOS 3.1, which is optimized for working with active cooling. The system can evaluate CPU load in real time and automatically adjust the fan speed. At the same time, users have multiple modes available—from maximum performance to a battery-saving quiet mode.
Another interesting feature is water-contact protection. If the system detects moisture in the air channel area, the fan automatically stops to prevent damage to the mechanism. After drying, its operation resumes again.
A massive battery and a future global model
Cooling isn’t the only highlight—its battery capacity should be above 8000 mAh. Combined with an efficient processor and smart power management, it’s a device built for long gaming evenings without needing to recharge.
While the Redmi K90 Max will be available primarily in China, its global version is expected under the well-known name Xiaomi 17T Pro. To top it off, you’ll also like the fact that Xiaomi offers up to a 6-year warranty on the fan, while also promising lifetime maintenance and cleaning—something unheard of in the smartphone segment.
