After yesterday’s Chinese unveiling of new smart TVs, Xiaomi has moved to India today, where it introduced a new budget smartphone, Redmi Y3. It has very similar specs to Redmi 7, but brings a better-quality selfie camera.

32 MPx selfie camera as the main highlight

Redmi Y3 is trying to attract especially younger users. The biggest draw of the new model is the 32 MPx selfie camera, which is equipped with AI for Beautify 4.0 beautification and AI for portrait photos.

The camera uses a 1.6µm 4-in-1 Super Pixel sensor with a f/2.25 aperture. Working together with screen flash lighting, it creates high-quality selfies even in poor lighting conditions. The sensor also has an 80° wide field of view, which is great for group selfie photos.

Hardware from Redmi 7

Redmi Y3 is essentially an upgraded version of Redmi 7—upgraded with a better selfie camera. The main hardware is exactly the same. Redmi Y3 is powered by an 8-core Snapdragon 632 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz, with the Adreno 506 graphics chip. There will be versions with 3 / 4 GB RAM and 32 / 64 GB storage.

The front is taken up by a 6.26″ HD+ display with a teardrop-style notch. Power is handled by a solid 4000 mAh battery with standard charging.

On the back, you’ll also find a dual 12 MPx + 2 MPx camera with 1.25µm pixel size and f/2.2 aperture. The video camera records video in maximum 1080p quality at 60 fps.

Another accessory includes face unlocking, a fingerprint sensor on the back, 3.5 mm jack, an IR Blaster for controlling household appliances, a microUSB connector, a separate slot for microSD cards, and the highlight is also support for the B20 (800 MHz) LTE band, which is used mostly in Europe. Could Xiaomi be planning to release this smartphone on our market too? We’ll see.

Low prices and interesting color options

The new Redmi Y3 is available in India starting today for 9999 Indian rupees for the 3 + 32 GB model, which is about €130 / 3300 CZK.

The higher 4 + 64 GB version will cost you 11,999 Indian rupees, which is about €155 / 3945 CZK for us. The smartphone is available not only in classic black, but also in a much more interesting gradient blue and red color.
