Much like the MIUI software layer, the new HyperOS will also come in two variants – HyperOS Global and HyperOS China. As the names suggest, these are versions of the software layer that have certain differences depending on the region where the phone is sold. What differences are we talking about? You’ll find out in this article.
HyperOS Global and HyperOS China – what’s different?
Let’s get straight to the point—no unnecessary fluff. HyperOS Global is aimed at users outside of China. The main difference is support for multiple world languages. It also includes Google services and apps from this American tech giant, which Chinese versions don’t use. That way, you’ll be able to rely on your favorite apps like the Google Play Store, Google Maps, and other software you’ll already be familiar with.
HyperOS China is then tailored for the Chinese market and also complies with some local regulations. The most noticeable difference is the absence of Google services.
So instead of the Play Store, you’ll find alternative app stores with apps from local developers. You’ll also get a number of preinstalled Chinese apps, though local users will likely need to find a way to make use of them.
These are probably the most basic differences between the two versions of the new HyperOS. It’s almost the same for MIUI Global and MIUI China. In MIUI, the system font also changes across these versions. With HyperOS, that won’t happen and the typeface will be the same everywhere.
It’s also worth mentioning the implementation of different apps based on system localization. The Global version has the Contacts app from Google, while the Chinese alternative uses its own solution. The same applies to the dialer for phone numbers and to the messaging app (Google Messages versus the China-specific app).
Hyper OS Global therefore shares many similarities with Hyper OS China, and the differences mainly come down to the availability of multiple languages and Google services. The core system apps are different, and the global version uses solutions from Google.
If you live in Slovakia—respectively, outside of China—you’ll most likely choose a phone with the global software layer. If you import a device from China, though, don’t forget that you can also install the Google Play Store on the Chinese software and use it with minimal restrictions here as well.
