Fresh updates also include confirmation of the expected partnership between Xiaomi and Leica. The German brand will thus team up with the Chinese smartphone maker. And in addition, thanks to new leaks, we’ve also seen a rumored design for the flagship smartphone Xiaomi 12 Ultra.
Collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica confirmed
For several months now, we’ve been seeing various speculations about what the final look of the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Ultra flagship could be like. But this debate is coming to an end, as a leak of alleged promotional material for this phone has appeared online, showing a close-up of the back.
This post was published by a profile called Shadoq Leak via the social network Twitter. What’s more, the source Xiaomiui confirmed that the expected collaboration with the German company Leica is almost certain, since different parts that should include Leica camera software and high-quality photo results have appeared in the internal code MIUI.
The focus is on Xiaomi and Leica’s collaboration
The look of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, however, won’t come as a huge surprise. Earlier leaks have been gradually moving closer to the final design. On the back, there should be a large camera module with three rather sizable sensors.
Basically, it’s expected that these cameras will be positioned as – the main camera, an ultra-wide lens, and also a telephoto lens with optical zoom. In addition, the equipment of this model should also include 5x optical and up to 120x digital zoom.
But the most striking aspect of the back of the upcoming smartphone is without a doubt the Leica logo. As the MIUI internal code hinted, we can look forward to various software enhancements from this well-known German camera manufacturer. For example: the Leica Monochrom, Leica Monochrom HC, Leica Natural or Leica Vivid mode.
Another hint of Leica technology integration could also be the code name of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra model (model L2S – “S” as the premium version; the previous generations J1 and J1S are actually Mi 10 Pro and Mi 10 Ultra smartphones). That translates to “unicorn” and it belongs to Greek mythology just like other flagship devices.
Other smartphone series then have different model codes. We have records as well of a planned MIX FLIP 2 device, but also MIX 5, i.e., devices that also have different nicknames, for example those film-related ones like “thor” and “loki”.
It seems Xiaomi has truly invested in camera and mobile photography improvements. Together with the Leica brand, they have an ambitious goal: to surpass their competition and build the best camera smartphones on the market.
