Xiaomi presents a compact and properly powerful 120W GaN charger at a great price

Xiaomi officially unveiled a new GaN (gallium-nitride) charger that delivers compact dimensions and high performance up to 120 W. That powerful plug can come in handy especially if your new smartphone isn’t included with a charger in the box, or if you want to charge other, more power-hungry devices with a single charger. Besides that, the manufacturer also doesn’t forget about safety.

120 W GaN charger from Xiaomi

The charger follows the launch of smartphones such as the Xiaomi 11T Pro, MIX 4, or Redmi Note 11 Pro +. All three support fast 120 W charging straight from the factory. The new model comes in a minimalist design in white. The dimensions of this charger are 55.5 x 55.5 x 28.4 grams.

The compact size is thanks to the new gallium-nitride technology. Older Li-Ion chargers had noticeably larger dimensions while delivering comparable power. Another advantage of the new technology is a refined overheating-prevention system that remains effective even when charging the device at maximum power.

Inside the charger you’ll find an identification chip that offers multiple safety functions. It protects the charger or the device against overheating or overcharging, but also against electrical short circuits, and more.

The maximum output power of this charger is up to 120 W. In addition to charging flagship smartphones, it can also power other devices, such as laptops. An important detail is the connector used: a modern and universal USB Type-C port is located on the charger body.

Price and availability of the new GaN charger

A new Xiaomi 120 W GaN charger will be sold in the Chinese market for the official price of just 299 Chinese yuan. In today’s conversion, that’s approximately €40 / 46 USD.

Sales start in November, and we don’t have any further information yet about its global availability. As soon as the Europe version with an EU plug adapter reaches the market, we’ll be sure to let you know.
