Xiaomi 13 may finally be the right smartphone for most Xiaomi fans

21. December 2022 3 min read 1 comment

Just a few days ago, Xiaomi presented the Xiaomi 13 series after a delay. What caught our attention most is the base model Xiaomi 13, which has a compact size and definitely has a lot to offer.

We think that Xiaomi 13 is finally the right smartphone from the Chinese giant that many fans have been craving. It combines almost all the popular specs—also in a compact body. These are its biggest advantages.

Compact size and IP68 are what fans have been asking for

Let’s start with the design. Compared to the previous generation, it has changed quite a lot. Now you get flat bezels and sharp edges, something we’ve been seeing for a while now on iPhones. But what impresses the most is the compact size.

If we’re talking about the exact numbers, they’re 152.8 x 71.5 x 8 mm and the weight is only 189 grams, with the frame made of metal and the front and back made of glass.

There’s also a back made of Nano Skin. The biggest surprise is the water resistance according to IP68 certification! That’s something fans of the brand have been calling for for years.

A nice view is also the flat 6.36-inch AMOLED display with FullHD resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and an integrated in-display fingerprint reader. The panel is Samsung E6 and supports a maximum peak brightness of up to 1,900 nits. Narrow bezels—according to the numbers, it’s only 1.61 mm thick—and the bottom chin is just 1.81 mm.

The most powerful chipset and quality Leica cameras

Worth mentioning is also the fact that we’re looking at a compact smartphone with the currently highest performance, provided by the latest processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It works with at least 8 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 128 GB UFS 4.0 storage.

A surprise also awaits you on the back, where there’s a prominent camera module. It includes a 54-megapixel main sensor with Hyper IOS support. Next comes a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. The cameras were tuned by Leica.

Everything is handled under the hood by MIUI 14, built on Android 13. You’ll also like the quality stereo speakers. The battery has a decent capacity of 4500 mAh, and it supports 67W wired and 50W wireless charging.

When will the global version be unveiled?

So far, only the model meant for the Chinese domestic market has been presented. We don’t have any information yet about the date of the global launch, but it should be at the beginning of next year.
