Xiaomi is apparently preparing to stir up the waters of mobile photography once again. The latest leaks from the Chinese social network Weibo (from the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station) suggest that the upcoming model Xiaomi 16 Ultra will feature an extremely ambitious setup designed to impress especially photography and video fans.

The main highlight will be a revolutionary telephoto lens with a resolution of up to 200 MPx, which is the highest value among the mobile periscope cameras presented so far.

Three standout cameras and collaboration with Leica

The cameras will be the pride of the Xiaomi 16 Ultra. The main sensor will get a size of 1 inch and 50 MPx resolution, featuring an advanced SmartSens sensor with an extremely high dynamic range and great low-light performance. This means the focus will be on not only great detail, but also realistic exposure and smooth transitions between shadows and highlights.

The second sensor—periscope telephoto—will deliver incredible 200 MPx and a size of 1/1.28″, which is an absolute top-of-the-line spec. Xiaomi is responding to the demand for pro-level zoom without having to crop image quality.

For example, Kartikey Singh claims that Xiaomi 16 Ultra will bring "major changes in the cameras" compared to its predecessor. He hasn’t specified the details yet, but says these upgrades will be "very shocking".

The third in the lineup will be a 50 MPx ultra-wide sensor Sony LYT600 with a size of 1/2″, ensuring top-tier shots of landscapes and architecture. Of course, the strategic collaboration with Leica continues, meaning special color calibration and exclusive shooting modes.

6.8″ LTPO display, minimal bezels, and top-notch craftsmanship

The Xiaomi 16 Ultra will also get a high-end display panel. Current information points to a 6.8-inch LTPO display with 2K resolution and an adaptive refresh rate of 1–120 Hz. Using LIPO (Low-Injection Pressure Overmolding) technology, you’ll get ultrathin symmetrical bezels on all sides, maximizing the screen-to-body ratio. The panel will also be protected by the latest ultra-ceramic glass, which improves drop and scratch resistance.

The device design is meant to look extremely modern, and leaks from China also mention rounded R corners for a more comfortable grip and more stylish curves. Overall ergonomics should therefore be on a very high level, even though it will be a fairly large device.

Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, a titanium frame, and an extreme battery

Performance will be handled by a completely new chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, delivering the highest performance in the Android world in 2025. Combined with system optimization and powerful sensors, it should become one of the fastest devices on the market. In terms of construction, the Xiaomi 16 Ultra is said to be exceptionally advanced—there’s talk of a 3D-printed titanium frame that reduces weight and increases durability.

The device will also include a solid battery—capacity should be 7000 to 7500 mAh. Charging will be just as impressive: 100 W wired and 50 W wireless charging will let you top up power in just a few minutes.
