It’s official! Xiaomi has confirmed that the new, highly anticipated flagship series Xiaomi 17 will be unveiled this month, and possibly even much earlier than we expected.

Update: The official unveiling won’t happen today
We would like to sincerely apologize to all of our readers and followers for the incorrect information we shared in this article. The official launch of Xiaomi 17 will not take place today, on 19, September.
Lu Weibing on his official Weibo profile shared a post about today’s live stream, but we misunderstood it and it’s only about a live stream where he answers 17 of the most frequently asked questions about the new flagship models. So we still can’t fully understand Chinese for 100% and we believe you’ll forgive us for this mistake.
As soon as Xiaomi announces the real official launch date, we’ll let you know in our new article on this website. We’ll double-check it properly 🙂
Unveiling in 2 days!
Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max will officially arrive on September 19 at 13:00 local time. For now, the launch will be targeted only to the domestic, Chinese market. The global unveiling will most likely take place as late as February–March 2026.
The announcement was also accompanied by a promise from the general manager, Lu Weibing, that during the livestream he would answer 17 of the most frequently asked questions from fans. Xiaomi once again stirred up the tech scene, and expectations are huge.
What do we know so far about Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max?
The biggest draw of the new generation is without a doubt the Magic Back Screen — a second display on the back side around the camera module. Xiaomi is building on the concept from the Mi 11 Ultra, but this time it takes it to a whole new level. The display occupies a larger portion of the back panel and offers plenty of practical features.
Besides showing notifications or the time, it can also be used as a viewfinder when taking selfies with the main camera. That means you won’t have to choose between image quality and comfort. The back panel will also serve as an Always-On Display, and in the future it should bring widgets for weather, calendar, music, and even QR tickets.
Cameras with a Leica signature
Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max will get a triple-camera system with a resolution of 50 MPx from Leica. The primary sensor will offer an aperture of f/1.67, the ultra-wide lens has a focal length of 17 mm, and the telephoto lens will provide up to 5x optical zoom with an equivalent of 115 mm at an aperture of f/3.0. Xiaomi is aiming directly at the iPhone, and according to CEO Lei Jun, it wants to beat it in some areas.
The rear camera module has undergone a design change. The three main sensors are grouped together in a large circular module, while other sensors and the LED flash have separate space. The result looks premium and distinct from the typical designs we’re used to seeing.
Flagship performance with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
Under the hood of the new models, we’ll find the chipset for the first time ever: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. This processor will deliver extreme performance, and Xiaomi will be among the first manufacturers to implement it. Along with an improved cooling system, stability is expected to be guaranteed even during longer loads, such as gaming or recording 8K video.
On paper, the Xiaomi 17 series promises a combination of innovative design, top-tier performance, and premium cameras. And if Xiaomi’s leadership’s words come true, it’ll be the biggest leap in the brand’s history, taking it to the level of absolute market top-tier.
