Our favorite Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is bringing its new smart box this time with the official name Xiaomi Box 4S Max. Its features include support for up to 8K decoding, the HDMI 2.1 standard, an Amlogic chipset, and up to 4 GB RAM.
Xiaomi Box 4S Max: 8K decoding and increased RAM
Xiaomi has prepared another surprise for us in its home market of China. It’s the smart box Xiaomi Box 4S Max, which is a major upgrade over its predecessors. At first glance, the new model keeps the same design in a matte black color finish, but the “Mi” logo has been replaced by the “Xiaomi” inscription, similarly to its sibling, the Mi TV Stick 4K.
Let’s move on to the technical specifications of this product. Looking inside the Box 4S Max, you’ll find a 64-bit quad-core Amlogic S905X3 processor. It is complemented by up to 4 GB RAM (the previous generation had 2 GB RAM), as well as 64 GB of internal storage.
On the connectivity side, you’ll appreciate support for the HDMI 2.1 standard, as well as 8K content decoding. The manufacturer admits that native resolution support is 4K, but the new thing here is the ability to decode 8K resolution, which the predecessor didn’t offer.
Other features include support for Dolby Audio and DTS Audio technologies. Wi-Fi connectivity is also included (802.11 a/c), and support for wireless content sharing via Google Chromecast is welcome too. The operating system is MIUI TV, which is a graphical layer built on the well-known Android TV.
The package will include the Xiaomi Box 4S Max, itself, as well as a power cable, a pair of AA batteries, an HDMI cable, and a short user manual for setup and first-time use. As with previous generations, the box will also include a remote control with support for voice commands through a not further specified smart assistant.
Price and availability of the new product
The new Xiaomi Box 4S Max model is going on sale in the Chinese market at a recommended retail price of 499 Chinese yuan. In current conversion, that’s roughly €70 or $75 USD. We don’t have any further information yet about possible global availability.
