When it comes to software support, Xiaomi announced an important change in its plans. After the development of HyperOS 2 ends, all of the company’s resources will be focused on HyperOS 3, which will be based on Android 16. That means HyperOS 2 is definitely in its final stage and won’t be further developed.

HyperOS 3 will bring smoother animations and an optimized environment
Development of HyperOS 3 is in full swing, and Xiaomi aims to deliver a system with a refined user interface, faster responses, smoother animations, and overall better optimization. Even though some of these promises sound quite general, they’re definitely steps that can contribute to a better user experience.
An interesting twist is that the final name of the system may not be HyperOS 3, but HyperOS 26 — Xiaomi could be referencing the release year, i.e., 2026. In practice, it’s copying the move made by the American tech giant Apple. The company hasn’t announced the exact release date for the new system yet, and it’s also unclear which devices will get it first.
Less pleasant news is that Xiaomi is also ending software support for nine of its devices. The last security update in September this year will be for these smartphones:
- Redmi A1,
- Redmi A1+
- Poco C50
- Xiaomi 11T
- Xiaomi 11T Pro
- Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G NE
- Xiaomi Mi 11 LE
- Poco M5
- Redmi 11 Prime 4G
After this date, the models mentioned above will no longer receive any further updates, which is important to know if you use one of these smartphones. If you own a model for which this version of the software skin is the last one, don’t expect any further improvements, new features, or bug fixes. Xiaomi is making room for the next big software update that should bring noticeable changes.
Xiaomi is clearly signaling that the future belongs to HyperOS 3, and it plans to put all its efforts into tuning it. For owners of supported devices, that’s obviously very good news.
