Our favorite Chinese manufacturer has officially unveiled its new set of Mesh routers labeled Xiaomi Home WiFi. In addition to fast connectivity and NFC functionality, the good news is that one package includes two units to cover the connection.
Xiaomi Home WiFi: New Mesh routers from the Chinese brand
The new tri-band device Xiaomi Home WiFi comes in a matte black colorway. One unit of this device measures 229.6 x 137 x 56 millimeters. The router features an integrated processor Qualcomm IPQ5018, as well as 512 MB of RAM, for smooth operation and fast connectivity.
Thanks to its powerful hardware, the router has enough strength to connect up to 496 devices at the same time. A system of two devices creates local wireless connectivity, the so-called Mesh connection, which looks externally like one Wi-Fi router, or one Wi-Fi network.
A big advantage of this model is its wide connectivity. It includes 2.4 GHz (2×2, supports the IEEE 802.11ax protocol, theoretical maximum speed can reach 574 Mbps), 5.2 GHz (2×2, supports the IEEE 802.11ax protocol, theoretical maximum speed can reach 2402 Mbps), and also 5.8 GHz (4×4, exclusive Mesh frequency band, supports the IEEE 802.11ax protocol and 4K QAM, the theoretical maximum speed can reach up to 2882 Mbps).
As for coverage, the manufacturer states that the combination of two routing units can cover an area of 350 m2. That should be enough even for the largest households, or even a house with a garden.
The package also includes an NFC antenna for quick smartphone pairing. It also has ventilation openings for heat dissipation, adaptive WAN/LAN ports, and the option to connect with the well-known Xiaomi Home mobile app.
The tri-channel router runs the MiWiFi operating system. It is also complemented by an intelligent routing system based on the Linux distribution OpenWrt.
Encryption support is also available: WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, WPA3-SAE, along with the ability to create “Black lists” or “White lists”, hide SSID, guest mode, and a gaming acceleration feature. The retail package of this product includes two router units, two network adapters, a power cable, and a brief user manual.
Price and availability of the product
The new product called Xiaomi Home WiFi is already being sold on the manufacturer’s official Chinese website. The sale price is currently set at 1499 Chinese yuan, which is about 214 € or 223 USD at the current exchange rate. We currently don’t have any additional information about possible global availability of this product.
