Among smartphone makers, Xiaomi has raised its smartphone prices the most over the past few years

In recent years, Xiaomi has been enjoying its best times. More and more reports about the fast progress of this Chinese giant keep popping up on the internet, but that also leads to growing confidence—and with it, higher prices.

Xiaomi is no longer a manufacturer of “killer” flagship smartphones. The Chinese giant has left that privilege to its sub-brands Redmi and POCO, which have seized the opportunity. Meanwhile, Xiaomi has entered the hall of true flagships.

Xiaomi is increasing prices

Since awareness of this manufacturer is spreading at a rocket-like pace, Xiaomi is slowly but surely shifting toward the more premium brands. This is reflected in the massive price hikes of its smartphones.

As you can see in the comparison above, Xiaomi has increased the prices of its flagship phones by as much as 100.1 % compared to 2016. For comparison, the Xiaomi Mi 5 cost 256 € at launch, while the previous-year Xiaomi Mi 10 cost about 512 € in the domestic market.

Fans of “killer” flagships found this price increase very hard to accept. The sharp spike in prices led to a wave of criticism aimed at the Chinese giant. However, other leading Chinese manufacturers were not spared either.

This year’s Xiaomi Mi flagship 11.

Over five years, Huawei has raised the prices of its flagships by approximately 47,1 %. OPPO has brought a price increase of just under 43 %, and Meizu 48 %. The well-known American giant—Apple—is also included in the comparison.

iPhone 7, introduced in 2016, cost 799 € after its launch. The cheapest iPhone 12 model with the Mini tag starts at 839 €, which results in a price increase of approximately 2,1 %. Apple smartphone prices have been hitting high numbers ever since the beginning, so the price difference between individual models isn’t that big either
