Not long ago, we published an article on our website where we informed you about Xiaomi taking the second spot in the worldwide market share. Back then, it was already more than clear that the manufacturer has high ambitions.
The latest surveys at the end of the second quarter of this year revealed another impressive achievement for the Chinese giant. As you could read in the headline, the giant beat the previous leader in global sales to take the top spot in the ranking.
Xiaomi as the world’s best-selling brand
Yes, you read that right. After long-term effort and steady growth, Xiaomi managed to surpass South Korean Samsung and earned the title of the largest phone manufacturer in the market. The graph below shows Xiaomi’s steady growth and the slow decline of American Apple along with Samsung.
At the moment, Xiaomi has a market share of 17.1 %, with Samsung right behind it at 15.7 %, and the third-largest phone manufacturer is Apple with 14.3 %. While Apple and Samsung have both lost ground in the long run, Xiaomi is moving in the opposite direction.
Of course, this success makes us, as fans of the brand, very happy. What exactly is behind this victory is not yet known, but the excellent price-to-specs ratio of their smartphones surely plays a big role—and there’s also no doubt about the U.S. ban imposed on Huawei.
We’re curious to see how the situation will develop next. Since Samsung is planning several announcements in the coming weeks, it’s possible that Xiaomi won’t stay in the lead for long. Either way, it’s a major milestone for the company—one that competitors will take more seriously than ever before.
