In recent weeks / months, we’ve been witnessing a big wave of new device unveilings—especially smartphones. A mega conference is coming up soon, where Xiaomi will reveal a lot of interesting stuff.
Most of us who follow tech news definitely associate the unveiling of new products with leaks of all kinds of information about that specific product. Xiaomi wants to put a stop to it—starting now.
What is a “leak”/leak?
“Leakster” is a term for a person who shares product info with the media, mostly online, before it’s even officially unveiled. Thanks to these leaksters, we can then know in advance what we can roughly expect from a given device.

It needs to be said that many of these leaks are actually released by companies themselves. That’s because it’s a very effective form of advertising—which is basically free. In some cases, though, these leaks are genuinely unwanted and undesirable from the company’s side.
Legal notices for leakers
Sudhanshu Ambhore is a well-known leaker who very recently received a message from Xiaomi itself with a legal notice. In his social media post on Twitter, he says it’s the very first time he’s ever received a legal notice from any company.
This particular message concerns the launch of the POCO M3 Pro 5G smartphone, which hit the market a bit over 2 months ago. Apparently, this is Xiaomi’s way of just issuing some kind of guidance, since the leaker didn’t sign any non-disclosure agreement.
What’s also interesting is that Sudhanshu Ambhore didn’t even share some of the information online first—he only made it visible on his Twitter social media profile. The message also includes a passage saying that the Chinese giant doesn’t want prices of any products to be published before they’re even launched.
We’ll see how this all plays out—and whether Xiaomi will take further steps in its fight against leakers. We’ll continue monitoring the situation and publishing all updates on our Xiaomi Planet portal, in our Facebook group, and also through the newsletter sent to your mailbox.
