Xiaomi’s biggest pride in the progress of mobile cameras is currently the flagship Xiaomi Mi 9. Besides delivering an incredible price-to-performance ratio, it also comes with top-tier cameras.
On the other hand, there’s the home Chinese competitor Huawei with its most expensive P30 Pro. While you can get the Mi 9 for as low as €400, the P30 Pro sells for about €800.
Xiaomi Mi 9 vs Huawei P30 Pro: A battle of “Chinese” phones
Huawei invests in camera technology in its smartphones for much longer, which is confirmed by last year’s and this year’s top spot in the ranking of the respected test DxOmark. In this test, the Huawei P30 Pro scored up to 112 points, earning the coveted “royal crown”. Xiaomi Mi 9, with 107 points, is in fifth place.

However, with the Mi 9, Xiaomi managed to achieve the absolute highest score for video quality – 99 points. So far, no other smartphone has received such a score from DxOmark. The competing P30 Pro has 97 points for video. And it’s video, where the well-known YouTuber Techtablets compared these two flagship devices. You can watch the full test in the video below.

Even though there’s a substantial price difference between the Mi 9 and the P30 Pro, the Mi 9 shows strong points of its 48 MPx sensor in some areas. The software image stabilization works amazingly on the Mi 9, completely crushing the optical stabilization in the P30 Pro.
The Mi 9 video is unbelievably smooth, and Xiaomi did a great job developing the stabilization. You can see the 4K video stabilization test in the video from 1:12. But where the P30 Pro takes the lead is sound quality in video. Another plus of the P30 Pro is the ability to switch lenses directly while filming.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 beats its twice-more-expensive competitor even in autofocus speed and image sharpness. However, the P30 Pro has the advantage in worse lighting conditions. Also, video from the front camera is much more stabilized and has better color balance on the P30 Pro. The Xiaomi Mi 9 leads not only in video sharpness, but also in photos. In detailed shots, the difference is clearly in favor of the Mi 9.
Conclusion? The 400-euro Xiaomi Mi 9 visibly beats the 800-euro Huawei P30 Pro in 4K video quality. Much better stabilization, faster DualPixel focusing, and nicer details. The Mi 9 defended its DxOmark test score really well.
