Our review:
Chinese versions with English language
Since all new Mi Pad 5 models are currently available only in the Chinese version, the tablet comes with a Chinese system — or at least only the English language is available. However, the seller pre-installs all the complete Google services, including Google Play, so you can use the tablet right after unboxing.
This is what MIUI for Pad looks like
What we’re very sorry about, though, is the fact that the Czech-Slovak community Miuios.cz is not planning to translate the MIUI for Pad system. We asked the community founder directly. We were told the reason is that the team doesn’t have the capacity for it, since they do the translation in their free time.

Stunning design
The design of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 tablet (once again) is subtly reminiscent of an American competitor. The front boasts genuinely ultra-thin bezels, making the tablet feel truly premium. Both the sides and the back are made of aluminum, which is more scratch-resistant and better at dissipating heat built up by the processor and battery.
On the back, the camera module stands out—it has a shape similar to the one from the Xiaomi Mi 11 smartphone and includes two sensors along with an LED flash. We’ll talk about the cameras a bit more in the section below.
The Pro model is only 6,86 millimeters thick and weighs a reasonable 515 grams. The tablet runs on the Android 11 operating system and the manufacturer’s MIUI 12.5 overlay. The new feature is a specially designed MIUI For Pad overlay that focuses on smooth multitasking and working with multiple windows at once.
A beautiful 2K display
What the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 tablet will definitely win you over with is its display. It offers a size of 11 inches; the manufacturer has opted for an IPS technology, 2,5K resolution (2 560 x 1 600 pixels, 275 ppi), and a 120-hertz display refresh rate. The image will be sharp, wonderfully readable, and as smooth as possible.
Maximum brightness is 500 nits. There’s also support for HDR10, Dolby Vision, and color adjustments based on the environment with True Tone. A direct comparison with the biggest competitor, the iPad Pro, was also included.
Powerful Snapdragon processors
The recent leak revealed the CPU setup from Qualcomm, where a tablet underwent a performance test in Geekbench 5. Snapdragon 870 is an eight-core processor made with a 7-nanometer technology that also supports 5th-generation networks. It will be installed in the more expensive Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro. The cheaper Mi Pad 5 will have Snapdragon 860. In both cases, these are powerful processors.
They’re paired with an Adreno 650 graphics accelerator. The rest of the hardware includes, at the base level, 6 GB of DDR5 RAM and a 128-gigabyte UFS 3.1 storage. Support for micro SD memory cards is missing.
The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 won’t disappoint you even in the camera department. The selfie camera on both models is 13 MPx. The Pro model gets a main 50-megapixel sensor and an additional 5-megapixel sensor.
New stylus and keyboard
Along with the tablet, Xiaomi also unveiled a new keyboard and stylus. The keyboard will power directly from the tablet via pins, so the user won’t have to deal with pairing or charging it. Just connect it to the tablet, and the magnets on the pins will take care of everything else. The case also protects the back of the tablet.
The stylus will also charge from the tablet, wirelessly. Simply place it against the side of the tablet, where magnets will hold it in place and start charging. This approach is something we also saw with the Apple Pencil.
The stylus weighs just 12,2 grams and has a very fast sampling frequency of up to 240 Hz. It also includes two physical buttons for controlling various functions, such as a screenshot crop.
Connectivity and battery life
The Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro will also be equipped with eight speakers with Dolby Audio support. It also has Wi‑Fi in the latest version 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. The Pro model will be available in a 5G version as well.
The battery has a capacity of 8 600 mAh and the manufacturer promises up to 6 hours of gaming. You can charge it quickly with 67-watt charging, topping it up in about an hour. The cheaper variant has a 8 720 mAh battery with slower 33-watt charging.
Price and availability
In its base configuration, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 (6 + 128) will be officially available in China for 1999 yuan, which is about €263. The more premium Pro model will cost 2499 yuan (€328). All these prices apply to mainland China, where the tablets will be available exclusively. Let’s see whether they eventually make it to the global market.
The keyboard price was set at 399 yuan, which is €52 in conversion, and the stylus will cost 349 yuan, i.e. €46.
