Xiaomi MIX Flip 2 officially: The second generation of the foldable “flip” smartphone comes with Snapdragon 8 Elite, 50W wireless charging, and a Leica camera

Xiaomi officially unveiled its new foldable smartphone with a vertical hinge bend – Xiaomi MIX Flip 2. This is already the second generation of this type of device, and the Chinese manufacturer put extra effort into bringing you not only a stylish, but also technically refined model.

Premium design that will catch your eye

Xiaomi MIX Flip 2 comes with an extremely thin body that measures only 7,57 mm in thickness when opened and weighs just 199 grams. The entire body is wrapped in a matte metal frame that’s resistant to fingerprints.

When closed, it feels compact and elegant, with all three sides featuring the same depth curvature. So you’re not getting classic sharp edges, but gently rounded lines for the best possible ergonomics and aesthetics.

A new hinge mechanism type called “Xiaomi Long Bone Hinge” is designed for extreme durability. It consists of an advanced system with a three-stage lever and four floating boards. Xiaomi also used a flexible 6,86″ AMOLED display with ultra-durable glass just 50 μm thick, and even after 200 000 folds, the flex remains almost invisible.

Performance of a true flagship smartphone

Xiaomi MIX Flip 2 comes with the chipset Snapdragon 8 Elite, a special version of this flagship processor tuned for Xiaomi. That means high performance with improved efficiency. As for memory, it uses the LPDDR5X chip, while internal storage features the fastest UFS 4.1 chip on the market.

The phone is equipped with a dual VC vapor chamber and excellent heat management, so it can handle demanding tasks and longer gaming sessions without overheating.

A major new feature is the use of the Xiaomi Jinsha River battery with a capacity of 5165 mAh and a high energy density of up to 843 Wh/l. This battery has up to 10% higher silicon content and, according to the manufacturer, delivers up to 18% longer battery life compared to standard cells with the same capacity. This time you also get fast 50 W wireless charging, while wired charging remains at 67 W.

A large external display and Leica cameras

The back of the Xiaomi MIX Flip 2 hides a big 4.01″ secondary display that’s fully functional. It’s an M9 technology panel with an extreme brightness of up to 3200 nits in special scenarios, so it’s perfectly readable even in direct sunlight. The external screen supports over 500 popular apps and has also been fully redesigned in terms of interaction with the system.

It lets you edit the home screen, work with multitasking cards, browse the gallery, and much more—almost like on the main display. Simply put, what works on the inner screen also works on the outer one. Xiaomi MIX Flip 2 therefore delivers a surprisingly full-fledged experience without needing to open the phone.

The rear camera module also includes Leica optics with a new Vario-Summilux lens system. The new model has an aperture from F/1.17 to F/2.2 and a focal length range of 14 to 23 mm (equivalent), confirming a change compared to the first generation.

While the original MIX Flip had a 23 mm main sensor and a 47 mm telephoto lens, the second generation switches to a 14 mm ultra-wide lens instead of tele. Xiaomi claims, however, that its 50 MP main sensor can provide 2× zoom in very good quality thanks to a cutout (crop zoom).

Prices of Xiaomi MIX Flip 2 in China

Xiaomi MIX Flip 2 is coming to the Chinese market in three memory configurations. The base version with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage has a suggested retail price of 5999 Chinese yuan, which comes to roughly €715.

The higher version with 512 GB of storage comes in at 6499 yuan (about €775), and the top configuration offers up to 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage for 7299 yuan (about €870). This flagship version is available in two colorways—pearl white and the purple “Starry Purple”. Let’s see which variants, and at what prices, the new model eventually lands in global distribution.
