Our favorite Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has officially announced the global launch of new headphones with an open design, under the name Xiaomi OpenWear Stereo, offering high battery life of up to 38.5 hours on a single charge, as well as LHDC with a 96 kHz frequency.
Open construction, Hi-Res Audio and 10 mm drivers
The new Xiaomi OpenWear Stereo headphones have appeared on the manufacturer’s website intended for global products. This confirms they will be released beyond the Chinese market, through official distribution. Their launch was also confirmed on the social network “X” by Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi.
Open-ear headphones aren’t placed directly in the ear canal. They mount to the outer part of your ear, allowing practically perfect awareness of your surroundings. Compared to “bone-conduction” headphones, which deliver sound through vibrations and cheek bones, they deliver a far richer sound.
In its new creation, Xiaomi uses dynamic 17 x 12 mm drivers, optimized for the bass portion, along with support for Hi-Res Audio Wireless. They also support LHDC at 96 kHz. SBC and AAC codecs are included, as well as Bluetooth 5.3 technology for seamless connectivity.
The design also includes a new 10 mm driver to eliminate sound losses and ensure privacy. Xiaomi also takes care of reducing noise during phone calls, using dual microphones and an AI algorithm.
The integrated battery provides 7.5 hours of listening time using the headphones alone. When used together with the charging case, it offers up to 38.5 hours of battery life per charge. Despite the battery, the headphones are very light. They weigh just 9.6 grams.
Price and availability of the new Xiaomi headphones
Xiaomi OpenWear Stereo will also be sold in Europe, in beige and gray. However, we don’t know the official price or availability in individual stores yet. Still, if we look at the competition, popular Shokz OpenFit start at about €166 on Amazon, and Bose Ultra Open Ear are priced at from €257.
