Xiaomi reveals a hidden feature of Redmi 8 and 8A that you wouldn’t expect in such affordable phones

We’ve already written about the new budget Redmi smartfones, and we’re really happy that they’re available for us too. We mean the lowest tier of Redmi-branded smartphones, namely Redmi 8A and Redmi 8.

They were introduced only recently. However, now the company is unveiling their hidden feature, about which not much was discussed.

A new feature for budget smartphones

Both of the mentioned smartfones have what the company calls the sound dust removal feature. Basically, it’s a way to clear out dust and dirt that usually collects in the phone’s speakers, which is a fairly common problem.

According to Xiaomi, Redmi devices can achieve this by playing a built-in sound intended to reach the speaker’s maximum amplitude for 30 seconds. Supposedly, this removes all the dust using clean power without damaging the speaker.

It’s an interesting solution to this common issue, and it’s surprising we haven’t seen it on any other phone so far. This feature should also be supported by the next higher class, Redmi Note 8.

In practice, it’s like “blowing out” the dust and dirt from the speaker—so intensely that it can even blow out a burning candle.

Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A smartphones are almost the same phones with minor differences. They have identically designed polycarbonate bodies and come with an applied P2i coating that provides protection against splashes. Both are equipped with a 6.22-inch IPS LCD display with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels. The protection is, in both cases, provided by Gorilla Glass 5.

The Redmi 8 camera features a fingerprint sensor on the back, where it also has one extra camera. Redmi 8A doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor, but you can set up a face unlock method on the device.

Other common features available on Redmi 8 and 8A devices include an infrared port, FM radio with a built-in antenna, dual SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi‑Fi 802.11 b / g / n, Bluetooth 4,2, GPS, and a 3,5 mm audio connector.

Both smartphones have the same primary camera, the Sony IMX363, with a resolution of 12 MPx. The front 8 MPx camera is also the same. Both Redmi 8 and the 8A version have a 5000 mAh battery and support fast 18-watt charging.
