Xiaomi continues expanding its smart home ecosystem, and this time it unveiled the new Xiaomi Smoke Detector 2. It’s a smart smoke detector designed to help improve home safety while minimizing the number of false alarms.

The new product was listed on the Chinese market so far for 149 Chinese yuan, which is roughly €19, but it has already caught attention thanks to several improvements over the previous generation. We haven’t found it yet in international sellers’ listings, but as soon as that happens, we’ll update this article.
The new sensor distinguishes real danger from everyday steam
The biggest new feature is the use of an advanced sensor with dual light technology. Xiaomi uses a combination of red and blue light, allowing the detector to analyze airborne particles more accurately. The goal is to separate a real fire from normal situations such as shower steam, cooking smoke, or small bits of dirt.
False alarms are among the most common reasons why people turn off or ignore smart detectors. Xiaomi therefore focused on higher detection accuracy so the device alerts you only when it’s truly necessary.
The detector doesn’t work only with smoke data. It also includes temperature and humidity sensors, which provide additional information about the environment. For example, if it detects increased humidity caused by steam, it can correctly evaluate the situation and prevent an unnecessary alarm from triggering.
The user also gets three sensitivity levels. This lets you tailor the detector’s behavior to a specific space. One setting is suitable for the kitchen and a different one, for example, for the bedroom or hallway.
Practical details and battery life up to five years
Xiaomi Smoke Detector 2 is a full-fledged part of a smart home. It supports HyperOS Connect technology and integration with the Mi Home app. That way, you can monitor the device status directly from your smartphone, check notifications, and receive instant alerts when a problem is detected.
When combined with a Bluetooth Mesh gateway, it’s possible to create automations with other Xiaomi devices as well. In case of an alarm, lights can turn on, sirens can start, or alerts can be sent to multiple mobile devices at the same time. Such a setup can significantly reduce response time in an emergency.
The manufacturer didn’t forget about everyday use either. On the device body, you’ll find a large button used to test functionality or quickly mute the alarm. The detector’s status is indicated by a three-color LED ring, so you can immediately tell whether everything is OK.
Another interesting feature is the notification for accumulated dust. Over time, it can negatively affect the sensor’s accuracy. Power is provided by a CR17450 battery, and thanks to the energy-saving operating mode it should last up to five years without replacement.
