The MIUI build in version 11 was officially released in September. Most Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones have already been updated; some are still waiting for the update. The integrated app Mi Calculator has been accompanying the build in all its versions since the very beginning. In MIUI 11, however, it brings a great upgrade.
What can the Mi Calculator do?
Let’s take a look at a few tips and features included in one of the best calculator apps for mobile phones. Why is it so special? At first glance, it’s a standard calculator with a simple design you’ll find by the hundreds in the Play Store.
Right after launching the app, you’ll be pleased by the simple holo design with the calculator’s basic elements. A big advantage of this even simple calculator is that the display shows all calculations in one go, so the user can always see the full result and double-check what they’ve already calculated and what they haven’t.
After tapping the icon of two squares in the bottom-left corner, the app switches to the advanced scientific calculator, where you can perform more complex calculations.
This is far from everything. Another interesting feature of the Mi Calculator app is the Converter for many units across different quantities.
Travelers or shop owners will definitely use the ability to convert exchange rates. The current rates are provided by the Webull service and are updated via an internet connection. There’s a wide selection of world currencies, including the most commonly used ones. The user can convert three currencies at the same time.
Other conversions available in the Converter include length, area, volume, temperature, speed, time, and mass. In each category, there are pre-set lots of units, and we admit we don’t know some of the available ones either.
The advantage is that when selecting two converted units – for example inches and centimeters, the user can very quickly switch which length they want to enter by clicking on the digit of the – whose unit.
Besides the Calculator and the Converter, the app also includes a way to calculate Mortgages, or even a standard loan. For each category, you need to enter the required details and then run the calculation.
MIUI 11 brought the calculator a new attractive and practical feature
The MIUI 11 update also delivered a great improvement for the Calculator app. From now on, the user can minimize it and thereby enable its use in an external floating window. While the calculator is open, you can move around in other apps and the phone’s menu without any issues. The separate window mode is activated by tapping the icon with opposing arrows in the bottom-left corner. Tapping the same icon again returns the app to its original view.
In the floating calculator window, the user can set the transparency intensity. By tapping the drop icon, you’ll see a slider with which you can adjust the window’s transparency.
If you want to move the calculator window to another spot on the display, simply hold your finger on the top bar of the window, then drag it to any place you like.
By tapping the diagonal lines icon in the bottom-left corner of the calculator window, you can also change its size.
The floating window feature is available only in the calculator mode. In the converter and mortgage modes, it’s not available. Also watch the video from MIUI’s official account on Twitter to see how easily it works.
