Wireless and fast data transfer is becoming an increasingly important part of the equipment on our Android devices. The technology is especially becoming interesting with the arrival of new and innovative 5G networks.
An alliance that wants to make this functionality available to users is currently forming among the biggest Chinese brands Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo.
Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance
The cooperation was announced by Chinese Xiaomi, which is bringing along the two other mentioned Chinese smartphone manufacturers. Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance aims to offer seamless file transfer between devices from these manufacturers with a single click. The wireless transfer should be available on the global market.
The new technology should be available to users of Xiaomi devices with MIUI 11 within the Mi Share feature. Supported devices should include Android Pie or newer, and the list does not include models such as Redmi 6 Pro, Redmi 6, Redmi 6A, Redmi 7A, Redmi 7, Redmi S2, Redmi 8, Redmi 8A, Redmi Note 8, Redmi Note 8T. We don’t yet know the list of devices from Vivo and Oppo.
Innovation for everyone, says Xiaomi
The new file wireless transfer system will allow users of these three brands to easily transfer files between their mobile devices without the need for third-party apps. This technology also supports a wide range of file types, including photos, videos, music, documents, and more.
“This expansion within the Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance to global users further underlines Xiaomi’s long-term commitment to bringing innovation for everyone. By partnering with Vivo and Oppo, two industry leaders with a strong user base, we expect benefits for smartphone users around the world. Xiaomi will continue to bring more strategic partnerships of this kind for our users and the Mi Fans community.” – said Chew Shou Zi, Senior Vice President at Xiaomi.
This is a collective commitment among Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo to create a new generation of mobile experience. Together, these three brands will continue to work openly to bring new technological innovations. The alliance is also open to collaboration with other brands.
Instant and stable connection with low power consumption
The wireless file transfer system doesn’t require an internet connection. It uses Bluetooth technology for fast pairing and WiFi P2P (Peer to Peer) technology to transmit data, which creates an instant, stable, high-speed connection between devices, as well as low power consumption.
This technology provides an average transfer speed of 20 MB/s. WiFi P2P technology also won’t interrupt your Wi‑Fi connection, meaning users will stay connected and can continue doing other tasks on their device during file transfer.
How does it work?
It’s truly easy to use. For example, sharing photos to another brand’s smartphone is much more convenient. When file sharing is enabled on both devices, you just need to tap the “Share” button under the photo, select another device, and tap “Send.”
