Xiaomi wants to build its own electric car. The entire project is to be led directly by founder Lei Jun

Xiaomi plans to not only make various smart devices, but also to produce its own car. The project itself should be handled by founder Lei Jun.

Are we waiting for an electric car from Xiaomi?

Slowly but surely, many companies are starting to get into electric car manufacturing, because they see huge potential in them—especially in the long run. So in the future, we could also see such vehicles from companies that have only produced smartphones or other smart devices so far.

In the past, we had a chance to see several updates from the American tech giant Apple, which is allegedly already working on its own electric car. It’s said to arrive within a few years, although no other information has been revealed so far.

However, the latest news is that the company Huawei has also started showing interest in manufacturing electric cars. It didn’t take long, and right now it’s Xiaomi that’s considering it—and is likely already moving into planning and the subsequent production of its own electric vehicle.

Since Xiaomi offers interesting and affordable products in practically every category, impressing people with both features and design, this could be an interesting step—and a long-term project for the company.

Lei Jun has been interested in this field for quite some time already

This entire project should be handled directly by the founder of Xiaomi itself – Lei Jun. In the past, he even visited Tesla a few times, where he met Elon Musk. The visits were meant for better awareness and also to take a look into the world of electric vehicles and their development.

It looks like more than one manufacturer is interested in this space, because there’s growing interest in it. At the same time, it’s a more eco-friendly solution than the classic cars we’re used to. Xiaomi hasn’t commented on the situation yet. They didn’t confirm anything, but they also didn’t deny it—so the chance of an electric car from Xiaomi is still there.
