5 habits that ruin the battery of your Xiaomi smartphone and you should unlearn them

As we all know, keeping your smartphone’s battery life is very important. Do you have a Xiaomi phone and want it to last just as long even after extended use without power, like when you bought it? Then you need to get rid of these 5 habits that cause your smartphone’s battery to degrade.

A lot of people suggest their own tips and tricks for keeping your smartphone with perfect battery life, but they may not work. That’s why we’re introducing 5 habits that damage the battery in Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO smartphones.

1. Charging overnight

Of course, it’s the most convenient way to charge—you plug your phone in before bed and take it out in the morning fully charged. But this isn’t the best solution. Leaving your phone charging for many hours can cause it to overheat.

There are also types of smartphones that can interrupt the power supply when the battery is full or reduce their charging speed to charge over a longer time. However, this doesn’t apply to all models, so it’s better to avoid this overnight charging.

2. Exposing the device to extreme heat

High phone temperatures are one of the main factors that slow the device down and cause a lot of stress for the battery. The device can work properly at temperatures between 20°C and 35°C.

You can check your battery temperature in the MIUI settings under the battery and performance section. If your phone goes above the 40°C limit, it’s recommended to charge it in a cooler environment. It’s not a good idea to expose the smartphone to direct sunlight while charging. It also shouldn’t be under a pillow or blanket—doing so heats the device up, which leads to problems.

3. Using cheaper non-original batteries

If you need to replace the battery at an unauthorized service for phone repair, make sure they install an original Xiaomi battery. If they don’t, the MIUI system on your phone can detect that the battery isn’t original and will reduce its charging speed.

4. Using non-original chargers

Just like with the previous habit of using non-original batteries, you should also pay attention to using original chargers. A low-quality charger may not provide enough volts, which reduces battery life.

With this kind of charging, you can also damage other components in your device. That’s why we recommend paying a bit more for an original Xiaomi charger—so it won’t let you down and will guarantee your smartphone works properly. If you have a phone with fast charging, we highly recommend the fast charger Xiaomi 65 W GaN Charger, which can charge not only smartphones, but also laptops with a USB C connector.

5. Charging too often and using it while charging

There’s no need to charge it at 70 or 20 percent, then disconnect it after a while. Ideally, charge your phone in the range of 20 to 80 %, when the battery suffers the least—and charging cycles aren’t shortened either. Also, it’s not a good idea to let it fully drain.

Using demanding apps while charging, such as the camera or games, causes battery degradation due to overheating—so we recommend not using the smartphone while charging unless it’s necessary.
