The biggest Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is the last smartphone that was introduced at Xiaomi’s September Chinese conference. It comes with very similar hardware as well as a new innovative rear display, just like its smaller sibling Xiaomi 17 Pro, but in a larger body.

Our detailed review:
The experience of our community members’ Xiaomi Planet FB groups with an order
Even though it’s the Chinese version of the smartphone, there are still enthusiasts who don’t mind that and ordered the phone anyway. One of them is Martin, a member of our community Facebook group, who shared his experience with both the purchase and the phone itself.
You can find his original post via this link. In the comments he actively answered other members’ questions, so this post could be very helpful for you as well.
Another group member, Michael, who is from the Czech Republic, even ordered not only the Pro Max, but also gave his wife the smaller and more compact Xiaomi 17 Pro. He uploaded a photo comparison of both models to the group.
Based on experiences like these in our group, you can decide which product is right for you and whether it’s worth it. This doesn’t apply only to these smartphones—within the group we discuss all possible Xiaomi products.
Will the Chinese version of Xiaomi 17 Pro Max work here?
Since the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max will not be officially available directly in Europe (global version), many of you will probably be considering importing the Chinese versions. Frameless 6.9″ display with Super Pixel technology
The main display on the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max measures 6.9 inches and is flat, but with ultra-thin bezels thanks to LIPO encapsulation technology. The design surprises with a curved center bezel and precisely shaped super-elliptical corners. Xiaomi claims that with a rounding ratio of n=2.84, the phone feels better in the hand and looks compact despite the huge panel.

The display protection is handled by a completely new Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass, which compared to the previous generation increases drop resistance by up to 30%. Brightness reaches up to 3500 nits, the refresh rate is adaptive from 1 to 120 Hz, and 12-bit color depth is included, along with HDR/Dolby Vision and a P3 color gamut.
The display is labeled as a “Super Pixel Screen” because it uses a full RGB matrix with 9.38 million subpixels. Resolution is 2608 × 1200 px. TrueColor Display 3.0 is included, along with adaptive color temperature, 1–120 Hz LTPO refresh, and a new M10 emissive system with a red luminescent layer that boosts efficiency by 11.4%.
The panel has TÜV certifications (low blue light, flicker-free, circadian friendly), and Xiaomi also added a polarization filter for more comfortable long viewing. Minimum brightness starts at just 1 nits. The phone’s overall dimensions are 162.9 x 77.6 x 8.0 mm with a weight of 219 g.
The most advanced Leica triple-camera setup in Xiaomi
Xiaomi equipped the 17 Pro Max with a triple Leica camera system, starring the 50 MPx Leica Summilux main sensor with an Light Hunter 950L imaging chip, an f/1.67 aperture, and support for LOFIC (Low Frame Integration Capture) technology. This delivers top-tier dynamic range even in strong backlight—photos are clean, with rich detail in both shadows and highlights, without overexposure.
The telephoto lens is also 50 MPx — it’s a periscope module with 5x optical zoom, featuring a large 1/2″ GN8 sensor and optical stabilization (OIS). It also enables 30 cm macro shots from close range with the telephoto lens. The third in the lineup is a 50 MPx ultra-wide camera with a 102° field of view and a 5 cm super-macro.
Next-gen performance: Snapdragon 8 Gen Elite 5
Inside, you’ll find the 3rd generation 3 nm chipset from Qualcomm — the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite gen 5, equipped with a powerful Oryon CPU (2× high-performance cores + 6× big cores), clocked up to 4.6 GHz. The GPU has also been improved (next-gen Adreno) with performance up to 23% higher than the predecessor and 20% lower power consumption under heavy load.
On top of that, there’s a powerful NPU for AI tasks (+37% performance vs the previous generation) and the Xiaomi HyperCore system for intelligent performance and power management. It also includes LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage for maximum throughput.
The device features a sophisticated “Ring Pump” system with a 5533 mm² cooling area and a special capillary structure — every part of the system has thousands of microchannels for faster evaporation and heat distribution. The temperature in 60 fps games (e.g., an open-world RPG) stays below 39 °C even after an hour of play.
Even under long-lasting load, the phone stays smooth — something you’ll appreciate not only in games, but also when editing video or multitasking.
7500 mAh battery and fast 100 W charging
Xiaomi has used a new “Jinshajiang Battery” with 7500 mAh capacity and an anode made of silicon-carbon material. It lasts for more than 2000 charging cycles while staying above 80% capacity, and it also has exceptional longevity in cold environments.
Fast charging is equally impressive – 100 W wired, 50 W wireless, and even 22.5 W reverse (also wirelessly). With compatible Xiaomi chargers, you’ll reach 100% in less than 30 minutes.
IP68, stereo Dolby Atmos, UWB key, and properly powerful antennas
The device meets the IP68 standard – it’s dust- and water-resistant up to a depth of 6 meters for 30 minutes. Dual stereo speakers support Dolby Atmos and AI noise cancellation during calls. The UWB chip works like a car key – it unlocks the car when you get close to it.
The phone uses a new Starlink communicator with a significantly larger antenna, a better amplifier, and support for 5G/4G/WiFi6/BT5.3/NFC/GPS plus UWB. Even if there’s no mobile network nearby, it can still communicate over short distances using Xiaomi ID (so-called network-free calling).
The overall connectivity package is tailored to the Chinese market, but it supports more than 520 carriers across 210 countries and regions.
Rear display: Selfie preview, gaming, or car control
Magic Back Screen, as Xiaomi calls its new rear display, shows dynamic notifications (drive/order/flight), lets you switch music, answer calls, and works as a selfie preview from the main camera, including the front beautify algorithm.
There’s also an interesting “sticky” feature: you can clip content from Super Mi AI or the Gallery onto the rear panel as a reminder/QR/image. You get AI dynamic wallpapers, personal watch faces, and even an interactive pet in the form of a panda or other animal that reacts to the weather, walking/running, and gestures in the air (thumbtack/V/heart).
But Xiaomi goes even further and adds the ability to play games on the back display. A special case with control buttons will be available for the phone, so you can control games with it. No, just… the Chinese…😅 The case is already on sale in China and costs 299 yuan, which is about 36 € / 870 Kč.
To top it off, through the rear display, Xiaomi electric car owners can control basic car functions. The display shows range information and lets you lock the car, open the trunk, or adjust the climate control.
