Even though we already know that today’s Xiaomi event in China won’t take place, at least something helped improve our mood. A well-known insider revealed new features for the MIUI 14 skin, so there’s definitely something to look forward to.
Insider Kacper Skrzypek on the Twitter social network revealed new features of the upcoming MIUI 14 skin. It’s pretty logical that this data leaked, because it’s already fully prepared and tested.
Xiaomi will focus mainly on optimizing
The new features are stripped of those that apparently only appear in the Chinese version of the skin, such as Family Sharing, Mi AI, and support for Chinese shipping cards. It’s important to emphasize that not all of the mentioned updates will appear in the global MIUI 14 version.
The most important change is probably this: MIUI 14 will now take up less memory, so it will stay fast for longer. The improved system architecture will increase performance for both preinstalled and third-party apps.
New customization options and text recognition
New customization options will be added, and the number of frames per second will be stabilized. Mi Smart Hub will be much faster, with support for more devices. End-to-end encryption will work without data in the cloud.
You’ll also get new widget formats with multiple combinations. App folders will, for the first time, highlight the ones you use most often.
MIUI 14 will include lots of plant and animal wallpapers. MIUI will learn to recognize text in photos; for now, 8 languages will be available.
Xiaomi ecosystem in practice
You’ll be able to simply connect your headphones to your smartphone, tablet, and TV—and switch between them smoothly. However, it may work only with Xiaomi devices. If you need something to be written on a compatible TV, you can use your Xiaomi smartphone.
On the tablet you’ll see a notification of an incoming call, which will be directed to a Xiaomi smartphone running MIUI 14. Searching in settings should be more advanced, with added search history and categories.
With weak Wi‑Fi coverage, you’ll be able to increase connection speed using mobile data. Among the known changes is removal of ads, bloatware, and the ability to uninstall even preinstalled apps.
For example, the Chinese MIUI 14 package for the POCO F3 smartphone includes 3,4 GB (compared to 4,3 GB with MIUI 13), but for Xiaomi 12 the size hasn’t basically changed. It looks like MIUI 14 won’t bring big changes visually either—it’s mainly about system optimization.
