The Mobile World Congress 2024 trade show in Spanish Barcelona unveiled a host of technological novelties, including the new electric car Xiaomi SU7. The brand’s first electric vehicle had its premiere on European soil, and our editorial team simply couldn’t be missing.

Xiaomi SU7: European premiere at MWC 2024 in Barcelona

As Xiaomi announced, Xiaomi SU7 is indeed present at the exhibition grounds MWC 2024. The Chinese manufacturer decided to showcase a configuration labeled “Max” for European customers, in the colorful finish “Aqua Blue”. This configuration is primarily aimed at performance, but it won’t let itself be outshined even from an aesthetic standpoint.

The Xiaomi SU7 Max will impress with a dual electric motor and four-wheel drive. Total electric output is 664 horsepower, and the maximum range is up to 800 kilometers according to the manufacturer. You can view detailed photos of the vehicle taken right in Barcelona in the gallery below.

Inspiration from the competition? There’s no need to be shy about the design

Let’s start with the front. It’s shaped in a way that’s highly beneficial aerodynamically, and you can’t deny it also draws inspiration from sports cars. The styling is reminiscent of the British McLaren. A standout feature of the front fascia is also the LED headlights, which are enclosed and also help channel air around the vehicle.

Another piece of equipment that maximizes battery range is the tires. Xiaomi equips its electric car with Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires (a configuration intended for electric vehicles), on 20-inch wheels featuring the Xiaomi logo. These tires are specially designed to improve grip during spirited driving, extend battery life, and reduce rolling noise—definitely a positive.

If we look closely through the wheel rims, we’ll find powerful brakes from Brembo, with calipers in striking yellow. They draw a lot of attention—just like the door handles, which are aligned within the doors themselves and don’t stick out from the vehicle’s body.

LiDAR sensor, distinctive headlights, and sporty elements

When it comes to navigation in the cabin and safety, there’s also no shortage of cameras that will handle a real-time 360° view around the vehicle. This system is also complemented by the LiDAR sensor, located in the upper part of the vehicle. LiDAR technology at first glance looks like it’s “sucking in” air on sports cars.

But the opposite is true, and Xiaomi decided to integrate this sensor mainly to improve navigation in the environment. Its placement is primarily designed so that the sensor won’t interfere with any other element on the body.

The rear of the electric car stands out with a bold inscription from the Chinese company. But once you turn the vehicle on, you’ll also be hit by the impressive headlights with a distinctive light signature across the entire width of the rear fascia. Xiaomi is using a trick that we can also see on models from other brands. Thanks to the rear lights and the bulky wheel arches, the vehicle looks much wider and more muscular.

A more muscular look is highlighted especially at the rear. A sportier aesthetic touch is provided by a rear deployable spoiler, which should also be active—so it can help the car sit more securely on the road. However, it’s also proof that the SU7 model can be a fun car, especially in the rear-axle-drive configuration.

Will Xiaomi SU7 be available in Europe too?

Since we were actually there in person with the car—standing next to it and taking photos—we couldn’t help but ask the employee at the Xiaomi booth, who was responsible for information about the Xiaomi SU7 car.

We’ve got sad news for European fans – a Xiaomi shop employee confirmed to us that the Xiaomi SU7 electric car will not be sold in Europe for now. We’ll have to wait at least 4–5 years for availability in the EU. The manufacturer, however, has not completely ruled it out for the future. The employee didn’t comment at all on an approximate price.
