Xiaomi’s new release called Mi MIX Alpha is taking the internet by storm and, as the next member of the Mi MIX series, once again surprises everyone. However, the smartphone with its amazing display covering almost the entire body of the device definitely wasn’t easy to create. Its maker spent not only two years of development on it, but also a pretty hefty sum of money.
Up to half a billion yuan
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun provided a fairly accurate statement about what’s behind the new breathtaking 5G smartphone. The idea and the device development began roughly two years ago, and during development up to the official unveiling, as many as 1,000 engineers worked on this device.
Moreover, for the Chinese manufacturer, this single device cost approximately 500 million yuan, which is roughly €64 million / 1.65 billion Czech koruna.
Although the conference was supposed to feature another 5G smartphone, specifically the updated flagship model Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G, the new phone took the spotlight. Its display reaches all the way to the back, where you’ll find a subtle strip for placing the cameras.
According to the director, it’s not a foldable smartphone, nor a phone with a dual, double-curved screen. It’s a concept that represents the future—a display with an incredible coverage percentage of the device’s body, up to 180.6%.
The phone includes technology to recognize unwanted touches on the screen, and technology for transmitting sound through the screen. It also doesn’t have physical buttons—only those with virtual haptic feedback. The metal body, however, ensures the device stays solid, and the bezels on the top and bottom are only 2.15 mm thick.
You can already read the specifications and detailed info from the presentation in our article. There’s plenty to look forward to in the form of phones with two displays from Vivo and Nubia. Even though it definitely won’t be a smartphone for everyone, Xiaomi is now rightfully seen as an innovator that brought a fresh breeze to the industry.
