Together with the experienced gaming peripherals maker MIIIW, which belongs to the Xiaomi ecosystem, Xiaomi has released a mechanical keyboard that will impress not only with its features, but also with its unique design. The keyboard is called MIIIW BlackIO Z980X and it has just gone on sale as part of a crowdfunding campaign.
MIIIW BlackIO Z980X – breathtaking design
The first thing you notice is that this keyboard is different. Its unique transparent design is not only very modern and stylish, but also adds an industrial vibe to the keyboard. Not only the keycaps are transparent, but also the body itself and the switches.
In terms of design, it’s simply a true collector’s piece. Built-in RGB backlighting will then make sure the keyboard matches exactly what its user imagines.
Specifications of MIIIW BlackIO Z980X
But this keyboard will grab you not only with its design. It has a classic layout with 98 keys, and it uses unique Kailh Jellyfish switches. Kailh switches are mostly known as a cheaper, yet equally high-quality alternative to Cherry MX switches.
Kailh Jellyfish is a unique variant with linear actuation (like Cherry MX Red, for example), but with a distinct “clicky” sound when pressed. The switches in this keyboard are hot-swappable, which means you can replace them with a different type if they don’t suit you.
The keyboard has open-source drivers, where you can configure not only the RGB backlighting, but also macros or even remap the keys themselves. RGB backlighting can of course also be controlled directly via shortcuts on the keyboard. Since it’s primarily a wireless keyboard, it’s powered by a 4000 mAh battery with up to 200 hours of battery life.
Connectivity
You can connect the MIIIW BlackIO Z980X to your device in three ways; the easiest is via the included USB-C cable.
A 2.4 GHz USB receiver is also included for connecting your computer or laptop. However, you can also connect the keyboard without it directly via Bluetooth, for example to a phone or tablet.
The MIIIW BlackIO Z980X keyboard is currently available for sale only in its home country, China, in a crowdfunding campaign for 799 yuan (115 €), but after it ends it will enter regular sales for 999 yuan (144 €).
