New smart features and app control
While the previous generation of the Mijia night light was “stupid,” meaning it was just a regular light, the new Mijia Phillips night light got smart features. The equipment includes Bluetooth connectivity, which lets it connect to your smartphone and the Mi Home app.
For proper operation, it will still need some kind of connection – a main gateway. This could be, for example, the Mijia smart night light, smart home cameras, a large ceiling light, or an intelligent alarm clock. Only after connecting it to these devices will it be possible to control the Mijia Phillips night light via the app.
Plays nicely with several
It also works with multiple night lights. That means you can buy several for your home and connect them together. When the first night light turns on in your bedroom, it will connect to another light, for example in the hallway and the bathroom, and they will automatically light up.
After connecting to the main gateway, you can set the lighting duration and brightness, so it fits the user’s individual needs. In the app, you’ll find 4 different scenes – bathroom, bedroom, hallway, and toilet. How the light connection works in practice is perfectly described by the video above.
Turning on the light works based on the infrared motion sensor, already known from the previous generation. The sensor has a 120° detection range and a max. distance of 5 – 7 meters.
The light also features EyeComfort certification, developed directly by Philips. It covers the safety of LED lamps in terms of flickering, stroboscopic effect, glare, dimming, and other unwanted effects.
Xiaomi Mijia Phillips night light is also very energy-efficient. It includes a light sensor that prevents the light from turning on during the day. The manufacturer states a battery life of 10 months. It is powered by three AA batteries included in the package.
