Cleaner and more modern design

In terms of design, MIUI 11 hasn’t changed very much. It only went through minor design changes that bring an even cleaner and simpler look. The elements now have a much more modern appearance, white dominates, there’s bold typography, and simple colors. That’s how MIUI 11 sticks to the latest design trends.

The dark mode also follows the same trend, and it’s not missing in MIUI 11. In addition to the settings, many built-in apps also switch to dark mode, such as the calendar, contacts, calculator, notes, and more.

From the design side, MIUI 11 comes with a new font, which Xiaomi calls „Mi Lan Pro“. For the average user, the new font design may mean nothing, but in the design industry the manufacturer earned an award for the new typeface: the reddot award 2019.

Expanded ambient display features

MIUI 11 brings updates even to the ambient display. From now on, users will be able to customize their screen much more. You can even set your own message, which will be shown on the display. Dynamic animations when turning the screen on are also new. It’s not a groundbreaking upgrade, but it looks absolutely stunning.

New dynamic sounds

In its latest MIUI update, the manufacturer has also updated all alarm sounds and notification sounds to be dynamic. That means the sounds can change depending on variables like location and time. Again, it’s not a particularly significant feature, but it will definitely catch your attention.

Mi Work: New apps to boost productivity

In MIUI 11 you’ll find a set of new productivity tools that the manufacturer calls Mi Work Productivity Suite. The package includes four completely new applications designed to make business work easier.

Mi Share – fast data transfer

The Mi Share app lets devices with the new MIUI version quickly transfer files between Xiaomi laptops and smartphones, but also with Oppo and Vivo devices. The app has a very simple user interface.

Files transfer at speeds up to 82 MB/s. Of course everything works wirelessly, no cables are needed.

New document manager

Xiaomi, in cooperation with WPS Office developers, brings its own document manager. The app can open and edit various standard document formats, such as Word files, presentations, and PDF. That way, you won’t need to install any third-party apps.

Screenshare feature

A completely new tool is the ability to “mirror” your smartphone screen directly to an external device. Screenshare works very much like Google’s well-known Chromecast. However, in MIUI 11 you can wirelessly cast your display to projectors, smart TVs, and other display devices.

The new content mirroring app includes a lot of presentation tools that simulate physical devices. For example, you can use your finger as a laser pointer and make notes directly from your phone. The app also intelligently protects your privacy, meaning that when mirroring content it won’t show incoming notifications like messages or calls.

Wireless printing

The last app in the Mi Work package is the wireless printing app. It supports 25 printer brands and up to 2000 models.

Mi Go Travel – travel assistant

Besides the office suite, a new Mi Go Travel set of tools is also available. The first tool is the travel assistant, where users can save all the important information for the upcoming trip, including flight details, hotel bookings, and a weather forecast. The app synchronizes all this information for better overview.

Super Power Saving mode

This package includes a new Super Power Saving – battery-saving mode set to the maximum. The manufacturer states that in this mode, the smartphone can last for the entire day with just 5% battery remaining. Unfortunately, we don’t know any further details yet.

All themes completely free

The MIUI overlay lets you change the design of app icons and other elements through the well-known Themes. You can download them from the store, where some themes were free and others were paid. Xiaomi now makes all themes completely free.

The company says that even though they needed additional income, things are going well for them right now and they want to give it back to their fans.

Earthquake warning and SOS

Yes, you read that right. A phone with MIUI 11 can warn you a few seconds in advance of an earthquake. A large contextual pop-up will appear on the display, and it also alerts you with a loud sound. In addition, emergency contacts and an information card for medical assistance are always available too.

The new feature is also SOS. The user sets an emergency contact in advance, and in an emergency, it’s enough to press the power button 5 times. The phone automatically sends a message to the emergency contact.

That’s all from the MIUI 11 news. How do you rate the new version of Xiaomi’s skin? Do you like it?
