In today’s world, hardly anyone can imagine life without a smartphone anymore. It has become our daily tool with many different uses. Long gone are the days when we used phones only for calls and messages. These days, they’re also used for various work activities, social networks, multimedia watching, or entertainment.
The new feature should help you limit smartphone usage
We may spend too much time during the day staring at our phone’s display. Developers at Google came up with a feature that measures this time. It’s built into Android 9 Pie and should help users limit the sometimes excessive time they spend staring at their phone’s display.
Many smartphone manufacturers didn’t want to fall behind and tried to integrate the feature into their own software overlays. Even Xiaomi developers didn’t rest, and they built the Screen Time feature into the MIUI overlay, which has a similar purpose to Google’s app Digital Wellbeing.
The new feature also arrives in a new MIUI beta version
For now, the Screen Time feature is being tested in the latest MIUI 10 Global Beta. However, last time we informed you that public testing of global beta versions would end this month. Therefore, it’s more than likely that this feature will appear in the upcoming updates of stable MIUI versions.
The new Screen Time feature’s job is to monitor how long users spend watching the screen. The information gathered is collected into graphs. The graphs show daily, weekly, and monthly statistics. This gives users a broad overview of their smartphone usage.
And it wouldn’t be Xiaomi if they didn’t improve the core functionality. With Screen Time, you can set separate time tracking for different apps installed on your phone. Once you exceed the set amount of time, the system will generate a notification and then automatically close the monitored app.
But since the operating system shouldn’t run our lives, users can also turn off the Screen Time notifications and keep using the app without any limits. You can also expand the variety of Screen Time settings by setting different values for a workday or a weekend day.
How does the Screen Time feature work in MIUI?
The new feature is still in testing mode
The Screen Time feature is still in development and has currently only been released for devices with Android 9 Pie running MIUI 10 Global Beta. However, we believe that Screen Time will soon appear in stable MIUI versions as well.
