The latest smartphone model from Redmi has a new charging temperature regulation feature

Redmi has recently unveiled its first gaming Redmi K40 Gaming Edition. Along with top-tier hardware and software built specifically for gamers, this smartphone also has a new temperature regulation feature.

Temperature management system

A well-known developer from the Xiaomi.EU and XDA Developers community, Kacper Skrzypek, shared information on his Twitter account that Xiaomi has started implementing a temperature management system that it built directly into the MIUI interface. This system can not only monitor the device’s temperature, but also limit the charging system.

In MIUI you’ll find it under the name “Charging temperature regulation,” and its purpose is to help users manage the battery better—for a longer lifespan—and above all to prevent issues with overheating, which could lead to premature wear and, in the worst case, even destruction.

As can be seen from the MIUI internal code, this functionality is able to limit the load on the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition smartphone at high device temperatures—so that the phone doesn’t overheat during gaming.

Only for Redmi K40 Gaming Edition for now

Currently, this feature is available only for the gaming smartphone Redmi K40 Gaming Edition, which should also be sold on the global market under the name POCO F3 GT. So for now, we’ll have to wait to see whether this feature eventually makes it to other devices too.

It’s a good thing that Xiaomi and Redmi are trying to keep the battery in the best possible condition for as long as possible. With every charging cycle, the battery loses some of its capacity. In gaming smartphones, where the processor is pushed the hardest while playing and the battery gets hot, this kind of solution comes in handy.

Charging while gaming is especially sensitive, because the battery itself gets pretty hot—players feel it as heat on the back of the smartphone. That can be unpleasant for them, and in the worst case it reduces focus when delivering performance in the game.
