Sad news: POCO smartphones will not officially reach the European market

9. February 2020 3 min read 0 comments

Just a few days ago, we finally got the official unveiling of the long-awaited model POCO X2. In essence, though, it’s a sort of rebranded model Redmi K30 4G, which has been on sale in China for some time now.

Now we have additional official statements from POCO’s general manager’s office.

POCO will remain an India-only brand

A new POCO smartphone is coming after a roughly two-year gap, following the very popular budget-friendly and powerful smartphone Pocophone F1. Although at first we expected that this very release could become the global version of the mentioned Redmi smartphone, that’s not the case.

The new product likely won’t be available through official distribution outside India either.

In India, that’s because the manufacturer introduced the new device for 2020— the smartphone POCO X2. Thanks to the growing number of questions about whether there will be a flagship POCO F2 or POCO X2 Pro, the general manager of the now independent POCO brand, Manmohan Chandolu, answered by looking ahead to the future.

He directly confirmed that a smartphone is also in the works, featuring a flagship processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. Now that the POCO brand is fully independent of Xiaomi, its only target will be the Indian market.

And it also seems that, even in the long run, there’s no way their smartphones can be sold outside certain selected Asian countries.

Manmohan also explained that the costs of new high-end chipsets are completely unreasonable. That’s why their plans to launch a flagship smartphone have been postponed for now. The noticeable difference from the predecessor could have been handled by the Snapdragon 855, but this model ultimately ended up using the Snapdragon 730G.

It’s a modern processor that doesn’t skimp on performance either, and it can handle the set tasks precisely and quickly.

Will we see the Xiaomi Mi 10T?

All the available information points to the fact that the new smartphone POCO X2 will probably not make it onto the global market via official distribution. However, it’s possible that this already recycled model will come to Europe under the name Xiaomi Mi 10T, as the successor to Mi 9T (Redmi K20).

But we’ll have to wait a few more weeks for the final decision.
