Xiaomi is ending update support for the popular Redmi Note 7 and other smartphones

The MIUI custom interface is famously tied to smartphones from the Chinese tech giant. One of these popular iconic smartphones is also Redmi Note 7, which won fans mainly thanks to its excellent value for money.

Unfortunately, time is slowly but surely running out, and the end of update support will arrive sooner or later for every smartphone. Even though we’re used to exemplary software support from Xiaomi—support that competitors often could take inspiration from—this time it’s different.

Redmi Note 7, Note 7 Pro and Xiaomi CC9e

These mentioned smartphones are officially losing support for updates to newer versions of the custom interface starting from 24 April 2021. However, users don’t need to worry—Xiaomi will still issue security patches for at least another year.

If you’re the owner of one of these smartphones, you can rest easy. Even though the way your smartphone works won’t change in any way, unfortunately you’ll lose the ability to get OTA updates to newer versions of the custom interface. That’s exactly why fans fell in love with Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones for their most diverse features.

You’ve probably noticed that you won’t be receiving these updates via OTA (Over The Air) anymore. There are still developers at miuios.cz who, if possible, will modify and make newer versions of the custom interface available even on officially unsupported smartphones.

So you can still look forward to the release of MIUI 12.5, which is supposed to be packed with new technologies, or the successor to MIUI 13. The only difference will be that you’ll have to install the update manually.

In the discussion under the article, feel free to write whether you’re one of the owners of these smartphones—and if so, how you like it. We have to say that even though Redmi Note 7 is an older phone, it’s still a truly well-equipped model for its time. You can check that out in our older review.
