The global version of Xiaomi 17 will get a smaller battery than the Chinese model, but at the same time it will be significantly larger than with Xiaomi 15

The series Xiaomi 17 was officially unveiled in China only a few days ago, and as is customary, the global release is being prepared step by step. The latest leak from a database code revealed that the global version of the base model Xiaomi 17 will get a different battery than the Chinese version.

That may be a bit disappointing for some fans, but it’s still a significant improvement over the predecessor Xiaomi 15.

The battery will have a capacity of 6330 mAh instead of 7000 mAh

The Chinese version of the compact model Xiaomi 17 comes with a huge battery with a capacity of 7000 mAh. In the global version, however, Xiaomi will make a smaller adjustment and offer a capacity of 6330 mAh. The reason is said to be different battery cell chemistries and certifications for markets outside China. Even though this is quite a noticeable capacity drop, you’ll still get one of the largest batteries you can find today in a compact flagship-grade smartphone.

It’s worth noting that even with a smaller battery, it will Xiaomi 17 offer longer battery life than the global Xiaomi 15, which comes with 5240 mAh a battery. That means an increase of up to 20 % capacity while keeping practically identical body dimensions.

A compact smartphone with the biggest battery on the market

Compact flagship smartphones usually manage with a capacity of around 5000 mAh and often even less. Xiaomi 17 in the global version with 6330 mAh therefore clearly stands out from the crowd. If we also factor in the high-end chipset and the optimization of the new system HyperOS 3, we can expect above-average battery life in practice too. The expected competitor, OnePlus 15T, is also focused on combining high performance with long battery life.
