- Xiaomi officially confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro lineup will be unveiled in China this very month.
- In the teaser, the rear display shows the message “generating…”, pointing to content created directly on the phone.
- According to Xiaomi, people were tapping on the rear display of the seventeen model more than four million times per day.
- The shot confirms a horizontal photo module with a triple Leica lens setup, which the display nearly covers entirely.
- More details are promised by Xiaomi already the very next day after the teaser was released.
Xiaomi stopped dragging things out. On September 15, 2026, on Weibo it posted the first official image of the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro and, alongside it, confirmed that the full Pro series launch will arrive still in September. In that single photo, though, it surprisingly revealed a lot.
On the rear display, a single word lights up
The teaser shows the back of the phone with the secondary display turned on, displaying a Chinese text 生成中…, i.e., “generating…”. It’s a clear hint that the rear screen will now be able to handle AI-generated content right on the phone — not just wallpapers, widgets, and shortcuts it was limited to so far.
Along with that, Xiaomi promised that the specific details will be published right the next day, meaning 16.9.2026. For now, then, we only know that something is coming — but not exactly what.
Four million reasons why Xiaomi’s display won’t leave
More interesting than the teaser itself are the numbers Xiaomi uses to explain why it keeps investing in the rear display. According to the company, users of last year’s model were tapping the app cards on the rear display more than four million times per day, and each day they added more than 3.5 million wallpapers to it.

That’s enough for an idea that many people initially dismissed as marketing gimmick to turn into a feature with real-world use. The rear display already arrived with Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max, and after launch it gained live wallpapers and interactive tools — the “eighteen” is obviously building on that further.
What you can tell about the design from the teaser
The photo confirms a horizontal photo module with a triple Leica lens setup, which the rear display nearly covers entirely. So the 18 Pro will carry over the shape from the predecessor, and there won’t be a revolution in appearance.
According to the Chinese insider DCS, several small things are changing — the bezels around the rear display should be thinner, the front camera’s vent could be moved elsewhere, and there will be a new physical button on the side. Earlier leaks also talked about a larger rear display and a privacy mode similar to the one Samsung uses in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. All of this is still just leaks, not confirmed specs.
What we know about the series besides that
The foldable is behind the series — now come the classic flagship models. The highest-end 18 Pro Max has already appeared in Geekbench with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, whose two cores can go up to 5.11 GHz. And the base Xiaomi 18 meanwhile has gone through Taiwan certification, which suggests an earlier global launch than in the previous years.
For us, the main thing is that based on the leaks so far, all three—Xiaomi 18, 18 Pro, and 18 Pro Max—are set to head to Europe. If it works out, it would be the first generation where we also get the flagship model—and for the first time, the rear display would reach our market in larger numbers.
