Xiaomi brings new products almost every week, and this time as well, a Chinese event revealed surprising devices to us. One of them is the new generation of a smart scale with eight electrodes. It’s called Xiaomi Eight-Electrode Body Fat Scale S800, with higher accuracy and new features compared to its predecessor.

As you can see in the images below, Xiaomi’s smart scale brings a change in design compared to products like the Mi Body Composition Scale. This time it comes with a matte white finish that doesn’t reveal any sensors at first glance, but it has a LED panel that shows you all the necessary data.

The maximum capacity is 150 kg and the manufacturer states weighing accuracy to 100 grams. In addition, the manufacturer also provides a telescopic handle with seven sensors to record up to 35 user data points overall. The handle also has a winding cable, so when you’re done measuring, you can conveniently store it away.

This product is specially designed to measure data such as body fat, water, body composition and muscle quality, as well as other body indexes. It evaluates them thanks to the integrated ADC chip, the built-in electrode and the ITO surface, as well as the aforementioned sensor handle.

When collecting this data, it uses a multi-frequency biological system with alternating current that runs through the entire human body and can gather data from practically any part.

That makes the measurement much more efficient, and the results are far more accurate. For connectivity, it offers Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n (2.4 GHz frequency) as well as Bluetooth 5.0.

The scale itself measures 320 × 345 × 35 millimeters, weighs 2.4 kilograms, and runs on AA batteries. One interesting feature is that it stores data directly on the scale itself, without needing to connect to the internet or the Mi Fitness app (with the China-region setting). After connecting, the data automatically syncs to the app or a cloud storage.

Pairing issues with Android phones and how to fix it

With the Chinese version of the scale Xiaomi Smart Body Fat Scale S800, there can still be an issue adding it on Android phones via the global Mi Fitness app. When we tested it, the scale connected to a Xiaomi phone without any problem, but after weighing it failed to generate the report. On iPhone, the connection and report generation worked fine.

Good news is that the scale itself with Android is compatible, and the issue is mainly due to regional restrictions in the app. For the Chinese S800, set the region in Mi Fitness to Mainland China, and before pairing it again, reset the scale by holding the reset button in the battery compartment for about 7 seconds. Then try adding it again.

If the global Mi Fitness still doesn’t show it, the solution may be the Chinese version of Mi Fitness (official download website) or the Xiaomi Home app set to the Mainland China region. That’s also where the S800 is supported.

Another interesting alternative for Android is also the unofficial modified app Mi Home by developer Vevs, which many people use specifically for Chinese Xiaomi devices outside China. It removes multiple regional restrictions, and in the changelog it even explicitly lists support for the model xiaomi.scales.ms116, which is the S800.

So it seems this issue isn’t completely removed from the global Mi Fitness yet. But today you have more options to get S800 working on Android. We’ll still test the procedure directly on Android phones, and if we find the most reliable method, we’ll add it to the article as well.
