The latest information from the Chinese social network Weibo suggests that, once again within this overlay, we can expect historic changes. Not only a significant visual remap, but also major changes in the system core itself, which will remove traces of its predecessor, MIUI.

A new design inspired by Leica colors
According to available information, Xiaomi wants to further distinguish its system from the competition while also definitively cutting ties with the past associated with MIUI. The most noticeable change is expected to be a complete redesign of the user interface. Xiaomi is allegedly preparing a more modern and unified visual style that will differ from the current HyperOS. Even though details are still missing, a cleaner design and improved consistency across the entire system are expected.
Another interesting update is the deepening of cooperation with the Leica brand. While its influence has so far mainly been visible in the photo app and color filters, this time the distinctive Leica color palette is expected to expand across the entire system. That means the smartphone’s visual style could carry a unified “photographic signature” — a rather unique approach.
The end of MIUI and a move to a more modern core
However, the changes are not supposed to be only about appearance. According to leaks, Xiaomi is completely removing the last remnants of the old MIUI system that has been accompanying their devices for years. HyperOS 4 is said to be built on a cleaner, more modern foundation.
Another big update is the alleged rewrite of system apps into the Rust programming language. It’s known for higher security and efficiency, which should translate into better system smoothness and fewer bugs. For users, this could mean a more stable operation and faster system responses.
When will HyperOS 4 be released?
According to the latest information, beta testing of HyperOS 4 could start as early as August 2026. The final unveiling is expected in the third quarter, most likely together with a new flagship Xiaomi 18 series.
However, it’s worth remembering that this is still only early-stage development leaks. The final version of the system could differ significantly from what has been leaked today (and what will be leaked later) on the internet. Xiaomi has not officially confirmed this information yet, so we’ll have to wait for specific details.
