The lineup of smart, sports bracelets, Xiaomi Mi Band, is definitely familiar to most of you. The latest generation of this model series, Mi Band 5, was recently officially unveiled for the domestic, Chinese market.
But what about the global version? We’ve been waiting for it for just a few moments now. The bracelet’s name for the rest of the world changes to Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5.
Display with an enlarged diagonal
As you can read in the article where we talk about the presentation of the Chinese version, Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 also differs from its predecessor in the display size, which has slightly grown from 0.95" to 1.1".
We’re talking about a beautiful, colorful, and bright AMOLED display, whose maximum brightness reaches great 450 nits. That means you don’t have to worry about poor readability while doing outdoor sports activities in direct sunlight.
Thanks to the resolution of 126 x 294 pixels, which gives us a total of 290 pixels per inch, you’ll always see the image sharp and clear. As we could see in some images, even before the Chinese version itself was unveiled, we really won’t get a display that takes in almost the entire front side.
Iconic button under the screen remains unchanged
Under the screen you’ll find a touch button that serves as standard for going back in the bracelet’s user interface—either for waking it up and unlocking it. Built-in watch faces are designed a bit better than those in Xiaomi Mi Band 4.
The reason is very simple. A larger display area allows for better optimization of the displayed elements. At the start, the user will have 100 pre-set watch face designs available right away.
We’re sure the community will later create even more additional, alternative, and original designs, and you’ll definitely pick from them too. You’ll be able to check notifications from your smartphone again a bit more comfortably.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 will keep you company during your workouts
Since it’s a sports companion, it also needs proper sports modes. That’s why we’re happy to see the manufacturer added new features like yoga, an elliptical trainer, a rowing machine, jump rope, or a stationary bike.
That way, you can measure your performance in as many as eleven activities and sports. The device can even detect them completely on its own, so you don’t have to worry about forgetting to enable monitoring for the specific exercise.
Water resistance certifications reaching 50 ATM are the same as in the case of the predecessor. It’s a shame that NFC is missing. Even though the Chinese version has it, here its integration would be practically pointless due to only one payment option via UnionPay.
At least the Bluetooth technology is in version 5.0, so you don’t have to worry about the battery draining quickly—either on your smartphone or on the bracelet itself. We’ll also mention the blood pressure monitoring feature, as well as the intensity and regularity of breathing.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 offers more advanced sleep tracking
Another new feature is more advanced monitoring of your sleep activity. This time it will be possible even during lighter REM sleep, so the bracelet will record your sleep even during an afternoon rest.
Also worth mentioning is the integration of a feature that lets you control your smartphone camera shutter remotely—without needing to touch the mobile phone. This is definitely a handy plus that will come in useful when taking photos with a long shutter speed, or for group photos where you want to be in the shot too.
A new charging method and a great price
For ladies, there’s also the option to track your menstrual cycle, so you don’t need to install another app—just use the one your bracelet pairs with. In tougher situations, a stress-reduction tool can also help you by guiding you through different breathing exercises to help you feel calm.
Users also asked for charging options without needing to take the device out of the rubber bracelet. From now on, the built-in 125 mAh battery can be charged simply by attaching the adapter to the underside. The new model is reportedly good for 14 days on a single charge.
The price of the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 is set at 39,99 €, and from the start you can get your smart, sports bracelet for just 34,99 €.
