Xiaomi, as a well-known manufacturer of devices also in the smart home space, has announced full integration of its Mijia ecosystem with the Home Assistant platform. It did this via GitHub, which is well known and trusted by the developer community.
This decision opens the door to a community of users and developers from all over the world who want to expand the use of a wide range of Xiaomi brand products with other popular platforms, including Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Zigbee.
The integration brings several benefits
In practice, this means users will be able to control their Xiaomi devices easily through one app or with voice commands. Practically anything can be added to home automation – from robot vacuum cleaners to smart bulbs, and even to thermostats or motion sensors.
The most interesting part is the fact that this way you can also use Chinese products, which would otherwise require a Xiaomi Home account set to the Mainland China region. Although Home Assistant already allowed integration of some Xiaomi devices before, via Bluetooth or IR, now the integration is complete.
The catch may be a requirement for more advanced technical knowledge. It’s a solution intended especially for developers and technical enthusiasts.
