The Chinese manufacturer has prepared an upgrade to the modern Dark Mode for us — this time labeled „2.0”. But that’s not all: the new update will also bring improved typography, meaning the system font, as well as the thickness of that font. It will even adapt automatically.
Dark Mode 2.0
The updated Dark Mode will continue to do more than just dim the system interface — it will also offer a global dark mode for 42 system apps and 20 other third-party apps.
The „2.0“ version also brings new color-selection algorithms, achieving more natural dimming adapted across different shades.

This Dark Mode will be able to recognize each element and text in the interface more precisely. This way, it won’t be just a color inversion — it will adapt every element individually regardless of its shade.

The new technology is called „Anti-Color Lab“ and brings algorithms that, based on HSV colors, achieve better adaptation to gray tones.
The feature also brings light-based adaptation. No matter whether it’s day or night, automatic and intelligent contrast and brightness adjustment for interface elements will be available.
The goal of the updated function is to prevent overly strong light in low-light conditions without the user having to switch the display mode or brightness settings.
Similarly, the novelty should work the other way around as well, in daytime sunlight.
Font and its thickness
Recognizing the surrounding light will result in adjusting the contrast and the text itself. If that’s not enough, the new dark mode can also change the font size and weight for optimal readability.
This way, in bright light it will enlarge and thicken the text, while in low light it will automatically make it thinner and smaller.

The updated MIUI 12 system could be officially unveiled as early as April 27, and we’re already looking forward to the first „beta“ versions that will show us what quality work the engineers at Xiaomi in China delivered this time. Follow the Xiaomi Planet portal and you’ll learn more information.
