Xiaomi reveals a hidden feature of Redmi 8 and 8A that you wouldn’t expect in such affordable phones
Redmi 8A delivers an unprecedented mix of specs and price
The Redmi 8A smartphone continues the Redmi tradition, offering a lot for a low price. But its specs don’t really suggest it’s supposed to be Xiaomi’s cheapest phone.
Redmi 8A measures 156.5 x 75.4 x 9.4 mm and weighs 188 g. The entire phone body is coated with P2i, which guarantees protection against water splashes.
A large display with Gorilla Glass 5
The new model features an IPS LCD display with a 6.22-inch diagonal and HD+ resolution, 1440 x 720 pixels. This results in a pixel density of 271 ppi. The aspect ratio is 19:9, and the curved 2.5D glass with Gorilla Glass 5 protection covers the display area.
At the top of the display, there’s a cutout that houses the front camera. It has a resolution of 8 MPx, a f/2.0 aperture, and a pixel size of 1,120 µm.
When it comes to the rear camera, it comes with a sensor from Sony. It’s the IMX363 model, which captures in a resolution of 12 MPx. The pixel size is 1.4 μm and f/1.9 aperture. The camera features autofocus with dual-phase detection.
Redmi 8A is powered by a 64-bit chipset Snapdragon 439 with eight cores clocked at 1.95 GHz and a Adreno 505 graphics chip. The phone is available in two memory versions: 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. It also has a dedicated microSD card slot supporting capacities up to 512 GB.
Like all Redmi phones, this one is dual SIM, supporting 4G networks with VoLTE. Connecting to WiFi in the 802.11 b/g/n standards is a given.
In addition, you also get Bluetooth 4.2, a wireless FM radio without needing to plug in headphones, and a 3.5 mm jack for headphones. Location services include GPS, A-GPS, as well as Beidou and GLONASS.
The cherry on top is a powerful battery with a capacity of up to 5000 mAh and support for fast charging at 18 W. Redmi 8A will be available in three colors: Midnight Black, Ocean Blue, and Sunset Red. So what do you think? For a low-end phone, that’s a decent spec, right?
