These Xiaomi devices will receive security updates for 6 years. Check whether yours is also included in the list

Xiaomi has taken a major step in software support that could fundamentally change how users view the lifespan of Android smartphones. The company announced that several of its models will receive security updates for up to 5 years.

For users, this means their devices will be protected against security threats and will work at their best for much longer than before. Xiaomi is thus becoming one of the leaders in long-term software support.

Flagships led by 6-year support

The longest, up to 6-year support, will be mainly for flagship models Xiaomi and POCO, along with one device from the Redmi series. This places them at the absolute top not only in terms of hardware, but also long-term longevity. Xiaomi, however, doesn’t forget the upper mid-range either.

For many users, this will be an ideal solution — a more affordable price, but still 4 years of updates. This is a big shift compared to the Android standard, where manufacturers typically provide only 2 to 3 years of support.

Another interesting point is that Xiaomi is expanding software care into the segment of budget-friendly models as well. Even if these devices don’t get 5 or 6 years, 3 to 4 years of updates in this category is a significant bonus.

So users of cheaper models don’t need to worry that their device will “age out” morally after just two years. Xiaomi also takes care of its tablet lineup. These devices will also receive long-term support, but in this case it’s guaranteed for 3 years. You can see the detailed support breakdown for regular delivery of the latest security patches below.
