The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max is newer, cheaper, and has a bigger battery. Still, a half-year-old POCO X8 Pro Max scored almost three times as high in the performance test. For the 256 GB version, you pay less than 50 € extra for POCO today, so we looked at what you get for that premium and when it’s worth it for you.

Kapo waited a few days longer, probably because of the weekend. However, the phone arrived in perfect condition, and inside his box there was a 100 W charger.

POCO X8 Pro Max or the new REDMI Note 17 Pro Max?

With our coupon, you can buy the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max for just 327 €, but this price applies to the 8 + 128 GB version only. That version is not officially sold in the EU, and 128 GB units have slower UFS 2.2 storage, so it makes sense to compare only 256 GB versions. As of 23. 10. 8. , the global REDMI 256 + 377 GB on Gshopper costs 394 € with bank transfer and about 8 € with a card. With our coupon, the POCO X12 Pro Max 256 + 426 GB costs 86,33 €. The difference is up to 50 to # € depending on how you pay.

Performance: For the extra charge, you get a completely different chip class. The REDMI has a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 made with a 4 nm process, while in the POCO there’s a 3 nm Dimensity 9500s that, according to GSMArena, is performance-wise close to the flagship Dimensity 9400 and 9400+. In AnTuTu 10, GSMArena measured 841 707 points for the REDMI and 2 445 108 points for the POCO—almost three times. You also get 12 GB RAM instead of 8 GB. On social media and in the browser you won’t feel much of a difference; it shows up in demanding games and in how much headroom the phone gives you for the coming years.

Battery: The REDMI wins by capacity. The global version has 10 000 mAh, the European one 9 210 mAh, and the POCO 8 500 mAh. But battery life doesn’t depend only on capacity. In the GSMArena test, the POCO lasted 25 hours and 22 minutes of active use; the European REDMI with 9 210 mAh lasted 22 hours and 31 minutes. GSMArena didn’t measure the global 10 000 mAh version, so we don’t know how long it lasts. Both phones include a 100 W charger in the global box.

Durability: Here too, the REDMI is better. The global unit has IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, and SGS confirmed its drop resistance from three meters onto granite. The POCO has IP68, which is generally enough for water and dust, but it doesn’t reach the REDMI’s level.

Delivery: POCO is shipped by the seller from a Spanish warehouse, and Marcel had it at home in 3 days. The REDMI from Gshopper ships from China; reader Martin was waiting for it for 7 days and Ľuboš for 14 days.

Verdict: Get the REDMI if you want the longest battery life, a more durable body, and you care about every euro. Get the POCO if you play games, want performance headroom for years, and you want the phone at home within a few days. Main differences: POCO X8 Pro vs POCO X8 Pro Max

To put it simply, POCO X8 Pro is a more compact and lighter model aimed at the best value for money. It still offers very powerful hardware—an 120 Hz AMOLED display, a 6500 mAh battery, and 100 W charging—so for most users, it will be more than enough.

On the other hand, POCO X8 Pro Max adds a bigger display, a more powerful 3 nm chipset, a much larger 8500 mAh battery, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, eSIM, and a more modern WiFi 7. So it’s the clear choice for those who want the maximum without compromises—and don’t mind a larger body or a higher price.

Extreme performance and gaming without compromises

At the core is the new Dimensity 9500s made with a modern 3 nm process, delivering extreme performance and better efficiency. The 3 nm Dimensity 9500s chipset combines one Cortex-X925 core, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores, together with the Immortalis-G925 MC12 graphics core and the MediaTek NPU 890 AI unit.

In the newer AnTuTu 11, GSMArena measured almost 8,2 million points for the POCO X8 Pro Max. Performance-wise, it ranks among flagship phones like Xiaomi 15T Pro or OPPO Find X9 Pro. For everyday use, it’s more than enough, and the headroom will be especially appreciated in games and when running several apps at once.

POCO is targeting mobile gamers directly here. Thanks to technologies like WildBoost optimization and smart frame rate, the phone can keep stable FPS even in demanding titles. The result is a smoother image, fewer dropouts, and an overall better gaming experience.

Another plus is advanced cooling POCO 3D IceLoop with a large vapor chamber and a graphite layer. It efficiently dissipates heat and keeps performance stable even during long gaming sessions. Combined with 24× more precise touch sensing, it’s a device that’s ready for competitive play too.

Huge battery and fast charging

One of the biggest advantages is a battery with a capacity of up to 8500 mAh, which is an absolutely top-tier value today. In everyday use, you can get nearly three days of battery life without charging—great for anyone who doesn’t want to deal with cables every evening.

Among the new features is an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor that’s faster and more reliable than conventional solutions. There are also stereo speakers with noticeably higher volume, plus support for eSIM for easier connection.

Another interesting feature is Xiaomi Offline Communication, which enables communication without signal over shorter distances. The whole system is complemented by AI features from Google, including the Gemini assistant, which helps with text, translations, or searching. A big advantage of the X8 Pro Max version is also support for eSIM functionality, which the smaller X8 Pro brother didn’t get.
