This is something we can envy the Chinese for: the first orders of the Xiaomi SU7 electric car will start being delivered by the manufacturer very soon

The Xiaomi SU7 electric vehicle has already appeared in Europe as part of the MWC 2024 exhibition. And a global brand representative has also confirmed its delivery in China, on the originally announced timeline.

Xiaomi SU7: Vehicle deliveries in China

Xiaomi Group company president, Lu Weibing, has recently commented on the delivery of its new electric car Xiaomi SU7. In an interview with the portal Pandaily, he said that the first deliveries of this electric vehicle will begin during the second quarter of 2024, in the Chinese market.

In addition, Weibing took the opportunity to highlight the long-term potential he sees in the electric vehicle market. He even dared to compare the growth the brand achieved in the smartphone category with how the brand will perform in this new product category over the next 10 – 20 years.

So this is really a huge ambition, considering how strong the competition is in this segment. But how does the Chinese brand—and its electric vehicles—fare with global customers in Europe?

Global customers will have to wait at least until year 2026 or 2027

The statements from the Xiaomi Group president naturally raised more questions. What caught our attention is that Lu Weibing emphasized how important the Xiaomi user base was, with a total of up to 20 million device units in China. This figure was key when it comes to the Chinese brand entering the electric vehicle market.

The Chinese manufacturer, in a sense, hopes that users who decide to buy the Xiaomi SU7 in the mid-to-long term will exceed the mentioned figure of 20 million units. Whether we’ll see the new electric car in other markets outside China is not ruled out for now. It all depends on how successful it is in the domestic market.

Lu Weibing didn’t give an exact date, but he mentioned that such a step to expand distribution usually requires at least two to three years. So we shouldn’t expect it to arrive in Europe any sooner than early 2026 – 2027. However, we believe that in the coming weeks, we’ll get the first reviews with real footage of using it on China’s streets.
