HyperOS updates. Thanks to a clever tip from a user nicknamed JozefCZ on the official Xiaomi forum for the Czech Republic, you can get updates faster than others—just by changing the region on your smartphone.

Best region for updates: Saint Helena

As Jozef explains in his post on the community forum, right now the island of Saint Helena is the most advantageous option if you want to get new system updates among the first. Located in the southern Atlantic Ocean, it’s thousands of kilometres away from us—but for Xiaomi it has recently had priority when releasing updates.

In his words:

“In the past few days and weeks, I updated a little over twenty phones from our portfolio; on all of them I keep this region permanently set. So I definitely recommend it!”

This trick works based on the mechanism Xiaomi uses to distribute updates. Different regions receive updates at different times, and Saint Helena has recently shown itself to be one of the regions that gets them first.

How to change the region on a Xiaomi smartphone?

Changing the region is completely simple and won’t take you more than a few seconds. Follow these steps:

  1. Open your phone’s settings.
  2. Go to Additional settings.
  3. Select Region.
  4. Enter "Saint Helena" or "Svätá Helena" in the search and confirm your selection.

After changing the region, we recommend restarting your phone and then checking the availability of updates in System update.

What to watch out for?

Changing the region has no impact on your data, settings, or apps. However, it’s good to know that some regions may affect the choice of pre-installed apps or the display of certain offers in the Mi Store app.

Also, if there’s no new system version available for your specific phone model, changing the region of course won’t help. The trick also doesn’t work on devices from carriers that have their own update approvals. But if you have a phone from the open market—for example from our Discount Planet—it’s a simple way to get updates earlier than others.

We also remind you that other regions like Germany, France, or Denmark work well too, but right now Saint Helena is leading. So don’t hesitate—definitely try this trick. The change is easy, safe, and it may get you the latest HyperOS—or even Android—today.
