The Mi Fit app is changing to Zepp Life and brings several important changes you should know about

Our favorite Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is making a change to its popular mobile app this time, called Mi Fit. It’s renaming it to Zepp Life and, besides the new name, it also brings other updates—for example, integration with the app Mi Fitness.

Mi Fit, now as the Zepp Life app

First of all, let’s remind you that the Mi Fit app has long been a popular title used to connect wearable electronics—such as fitness bands, smartwatches, scales, and even sneakers. However, with this branding change, it will also affect new devices.

The update will roll out to users’ smartphones, including in Europe, over the next few days. This is the app version v6.0 and the size of the update is currently capped at 210 MB. The app gets a new logo, but it keeps the orange colors of the original brand, and the reference to the .apk file will even retain the label com.xiaomi.hm.health.

The main focus of this change should be shifting the Zepp Life app toward Amazfit-branded devices. These are made by the well-known Chinese company Huami, which previously partnered with Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi. Now, however, it’s starting to act as a separate and independent manufacturer—something the renaming of the popular app suggests as well.

From version v3.0, which was released in summer 2017, the app from Huami has become practically necessary for connecting any Mi Band tracker or smart scale such as the Mi Body Composition Scale. The link to the app, in the Play Store, will already redirect you to the app under the name Zepp Life (formerly Mi Fit). Similarly, the Apple App Store listing for iOS does the same.

Users should also get used to the Mi Fitness app

On the other hand, selected smartwatches from the Xiaomi Mi Watch series should no longer be used to connect older alternatives such as Xiaomi Wear or Mi Health. These owners should continue using the new app Mi Fitness (previously Xiaomi Health), which you can find for Android at the link below.

Both updated apps, Zepp Life and Mi Fitness, can offer the same amount of data and also allow importing data from older apps. However, there’s a difference: the updated Zepp Life app is required to connect older models of bands or watches, which still applies (see the editorial screenshot below).

The new Mi Fitness app is written more for newer devices, and currently supports, for example, Xiaomi Smart Band 6. It’s also expected that this app will be the home for new bands like Xiaomi Band 7, Redmi Smart Band Pro, as well as new Xiaomi Watch S1 and S1 Active watches.

The final completion of this process and the transition to the new apps for all users may still take a few days to a few weeks. In the editorial team, we’re curious to see how Xiaomi and Huami will eventually agree on things. And also what impact it will have on the upcoming Xiaomi Band 7 fitness tracker, which is already in the preparation stage.

Xiaomi Mi Fitness.
