Cheap Redmi 8A smartphone gets a worldwide update to Android 10

Xiaomi doesn’t forget about updates for models of its daughter brand Redmi either. Great support is also provided by a very cheap Redmi 8A smartphone. It has currently received an update to the Android 10 system—and even worldwide for all sales markets of this smartphone.

Redmi 8A: Update to Android 10

For several months now, the Chinese manufacturer has been gradually updating its smartphones to the latest version of its own graphical interface labeled MIUI 12. The company, however, also doesn’t forget about system updates—even for the cheapest models, such as the Redmi 8A smartphone, of course.

The second-cheapest smartphone that the manufacturer introduced last year 2019 has therefore received an update that includes the latest operating system from Google labeled Android 10.

Just like other budget devices, the Redmi 8A model received its first-ever update on the domestic, Chinese market at the end of last month. However, the update is slowly expanding in multiple waves further too, and at this point it should already be available internationally on practically all sales markets except Indonesia.

It’s expected that this update will reach Indonesia specifically within the next few days. Individual versions for different regions have different labeling. In the table below, you can also see the version intended for European customers.

Different update versions

Since the Chinese version was officially launched during the month of July, this update only includes the July security package from Google. The global version is similar—it was officially released in the first week of August as well. So it also contains the July security update.

On the other hand, all the other update versions for the Redmi 8A smartphone arrived only later during the month of August. Thanks to that, they already include the current Google security package valid as of 01.08.2020.

Even though the Redmi 8A smartphone supports an update to the Android 10 operating system, unfortunately support for the MIUI 12 interface update isn’t currently expected. Many other smartphones from the same 2019 year will, though.
